It's 41.3 ExtraUrban and 26.41 Urban in US Gallons...
And the 7.1 is 0-62 mph or 0-100km not 0-60, so it's even better than ***** stated.

from the international site i just converted lt/100 km to mpg, so my mpgs are right, you have to convert yours from imperial gallon to us gallon.

Considering that all 175 ft/lb of torque will be available from just barely above idle to 5500 RPM, and with a 30 second 192 ft/lb boost across most of that spectrum? And that it will be a lighter car?
Yes.
The R56 S will run circles around R53 S's, and prob most older JCWs.
I can hardly freaking wait, man.

As far as the suspension and handling set up, it'll be interesting to see what finally happens. The new Civic Si on paper should've kick the crap outta the current S, and it hasn't even been a blip on the radar at the autocrosses. It'll be interesting to see once the test are finally done.
turque will help make it faster but, i think the r56 is only 60-80 lbs less then the r53, enought to make a little differnce but not much. i think the most important factor will be the drive train. I also really don't think the r56 will run circles around a r53!
I disagree. Put an 05-up R53 S bone stock next to an R56 S bone stock on a time trial with the same driver and you could bet your Aspen house that the R56's times will blow the R53 off the road. With the vastly improved torque curve and boost the new car will have, two words: shift less.

OK, then, an R53 and R56 with say identical weight 15 or 16" wheels and tires.
If you've not seen the article in MC2 about the new S's test run around some (I cant remember) track, you should read it. With a peak torque curve from 1600 to 5000 rpm--and that 192 ft/lb boost for 30 seconds--one will not have to shift so much, and any auto-X'er will tell ya that too much shifting to stay in the torque curve can slow down one's track time, esp. around the twisties.
But then like U say: time will tell here. But so far I like what I see, and stand by what I've said--given the vast performance enhancements, less weight (not much, but it helps) and lower drag coefficiency. Plus, I think the R56 uses the same aluminum rear multi-link setup as the GP.

Another thing I have not heard mentioned that could affect this R53/R56 battle is the tune of the suspension. Since there seems to be an optional sports suspension on the R56 MCS perhaps the standard suspension is tweaked just a bit softer than the current MCS? (Though they mention it's stiffer than the Cooper's) The other side is that the sport suspension could be a dramatic and affordable performance bargain. Perhaps you need to specify "bone stock no options"?
