2010 mini turbo HID lights issue .

We have a 2010 with what is apparently retrofitted HID lights in the low beam

the issue is that the lights come on whenever ignition is switched on .

and I want to be able to control them with the headlight switch on the turn signal stalk if thats possible

These packages were in the trunk so I’m assuming this is what was used
the LEDs I think are in the fog lights.

R56 Minis use the low beams as DRLs, I suspect that's what you're dealing with.

On my 2012 the DRLs can be set on/off via the menus in the display in front of the steering wheel, not sure about a 2010. Check your manual.

my Manual mentions it and how to turn them off
but when I pull up the menu on the dash on the tach , the DRLs don’t come up , the miles and kms and 12/24 clock etc come up but no drl .

i have the schwaben foxwell reader
will that work for turning off the drls ?

Make sure the car is running when you enter the menus, I think some of the options are unavailable unless the car is running. If that doesn't work I'm not sure what to tell you: maybe my 2012 is different.

No idea on the Foxwell, but if it is the DRLs then I'm sure you can turn them off with Bimmercode or NCS Expert.

Without knowing how the HID retrofit wiring was performed, could be anything on the car. It is even possible whoever did the conversion wired them straight to the a switched power source, bypassing the headlight stalk.

Got the DRLs turned off , though the turn signal menu
took a while to figure it out .
Has to click on the key symbol with the check mark and then find the drl symbol , which is the little square with the x in the middle

doors have to be closed , ignition on , engine not running for this to work on my car .

wife loves the car , just hope I can be the mechanic ,

it’s British racing green, 40k miles , borla cat back exhaust , drilled and slotted rotors and ceramic pads , Harman karden speakers ,
continental speed rated tires , a cold air intake that is hooked to the hood scoop , and had receipts for the timing chain recall ,

if I knew then what I know now I would have avoided the direct injection engine , cause the cam driven 3000 psi fuel pump is gonna be expensive when it gets old, but for the price I thought it was a nice car .

wierdest thing so far was swinging by the mini dealer and attempting to buy an oil filter .
They wanted to know what ship I worked at and when I told them I didn’t work at a shop I was just wanting to change the oil in my own car they looked at me like I was a space alien.
and finally said they had never sold an oil filter to an owner and had no idea how to even have me pay for it .

im used to walking into the Ford or VW or Toyota or Chevy dealer and buying parts and expected the same thing at the mini dealer .

BMW/MINI use the Purflux L358A Filter. An equally good alternative in Germany is the MANN HU 711/51x (provided it's not a fake one).

At 1:45 in this video by the manufacturer (SOGEFI FILTRATION S.A.) the Purflux filter is shown:

All the vendors that support this site sell them reasonably priced. I get mine from ECS as I order multiple along with another item or two and get their free shipping for over $50

BTW, they offer them with or without the crush ring. I always go with.
