R56 Ambient Lighting?!?
Ambient Lighting?!?
Had my 2010 clubbie for only six weeks and really havent done much night time driving in her. While I can see the two little "ambient lights" on the upper console and know how to change their colors, I'll be darned if I see the light in my doors. I do have bright white lights on the underside of my doors, so I can see what I'm stepping on when exiting the car. It is my understanding there should be the same color changing lights behind the door armrests, as well as behind the door opening latch....right? anybody?
I have my 2011 lights set to blue and can easily see the light in those places... however my husband has his set to orange on the 2010 and you can't really see it at all in the door panels. I haven't really inspected to see if there are no lights there on the 2010 or if it is just really weak. The 2011 lights are also brighter than the 2010, but then again I have the ability to adjust brightness and he doesn't seem to. I will see if I can't inspect the 2010 for you a little closer when I get home if no one else has responded.

Thank You!
Wpb, I can always rely on you for quick responses and answers! Hope you don't mind that I put you in my "buddy" list! Can't wait to get home tonite and figure this out! Sounds so cool!
Yay!
Thanks, Miniacs for all the input on this issue. When I got home, as I sat in my dark garage, I was excited to find that I do, indeed, have the waterfall lighting in my doors and in the latches!! I adjusted the brightness to the max, changed color to blue, VOILA, soft lights!!! LOVE it! Everyday I find another reason to love this car. I have SO got to do some night driving!! Very cool

great that you got it straightened out, Giggles. I change the colors around every month or so, but I rarely get to see them since I hardly ever drive at night (2 kids keep me home most evenings).
Anyway, I am honored to be included on your buddy list! Nobody ever asked me before . . .
Anyway, your posts are always fun to read. I can always use a smile when I am at the office!
Happy Motoring with your new lighting, and have a great day!

Finally!!
Finally uploaded a pic! Check out my gallery. Its the day I adopted her! Of course now she has the checkered mirror caps, and is waiting for the rear view mirror cover in the same pattern!
my 2010 has a brightness adjustment **** in the dash, down in the lower left corner. It is a very small black **** that sort of looks like a pin or stick with a little icon/picture to the right that might be something like a little light bulb. (I would have to run to my car to go check). But you can check your owner's manual for the brightness adjustment on your 08.
My 08 does not have a brightness level adjustment
In my 2010 Clubman the brightness control is a little back stick on the lower left side of the Tachometer. Press and hold to reach max brightness, press quickly and receptively to decrease brightness.
Oh wow, I didn't know that brightness control worked on the ambient lights too. I will have to tell my husband, he is always commenting on how much better my lights look. I think I read in the manual that you can control brightness on the 2011 by pulling the ambient toggle in a certain direction. One direction changes colors, the other brightness, and holding it causes the lights to cycle... but I can't remember which direction does what right now.

As I recall, in the 2011, toggle forward to change color and toggle rearward to change intensity. To my eye some colors seem to make the interior brighter than others. Blue and green hues seem to be brighter while the red and orange hues seem not as bright. I have the Green Lounge Leather seating and I have found I like the darkest green ambient interior light color best. It reflects nicely off the Striped Alloy dash. Of course you would have to go with the red / orange hues if you wanted to feel like you were on a ship or in a submarine running at night.
My 07 R56 has the same feature.... is there a way to keep the ambient lighting bright but lower the gauge lighting?
Thanks for quick response.. when I can't sleep I go through the forums. OH! do you know how to set the ambient lights to "cycle" through all the colors? I read another thread where a guy said his colors are set on cycle. I know if you hold down the switch you can manually cycle through, instead of step by step colors. But is there a way to have it change the colors automatically?
