R56 Xenon to Halogen Swap?
Xenon to Halogen Swap?
Hello, first time poster, but I've been combing search results. I've come upon an R56 bayswater that I believe originally had Xenons. Had some front end damage, and currently have some Halogen projectors in. Passenger side projectors low beam (single bulb, shutter type projector) isn't functioning. Seems as though it doesn't ground properly when low beams are on because no light comes out. I've swapped bulbs between the housings and I've switched housings from side to side to ensure that it isn't the wiring harness, because i had to perform some repairs on that as well.
My question is, is ordering a set of the base halogen TYC replacement headlights a plug and play affair? I don't necessarily mind warning lights, as long as the headlights themselves work. Looking for the most cost effective solution to just have low and high beams. The plugs on the body harness appear to have 4 pins.
Thank you all!

We have seen this on quite a few BMWs, when lamps are switched. Problem is the lamp module doesn't know position and thinks it is going to blind drivers coming the other direction. On those cars, we could replace the LCM and recode for non Xenon option. I don't know that is an option for you. I actually would suggest finding a set of used headlights that are correct for your car. It was a much cheaper/easier solution on all the cars we have worked on
Thanks for the response. The proper wires have power and the current spyder or whatever halogen projectors don’t have controllers in them. I spent 220 or so on the TYC and will report back on my results.
Hi, I need to bump this thread. My daughter's 2010 R56 has self-leveling Bi-Xenon headlights. One has been damaged in a fender bender and prior to that one of them had the dreaded self-leveling headlight error on startup.
She wasn't around so I used an online VIN decoder and it said the car has halogens. So I ordered some (non-self leveling). Big mistake right there! I opened the hood and it says bi-xenon. WTH? And these aren't self-leveling. Seems to me that I'm going to have to send them back. Ouch.
The company I bought them *does* have two self-leveling halogen headlights. These seem like nice lights, I like the build quality, but will I be able to go from bi-xenon to halogen? I'd like to replace both lights and I don't want to spend $1000 more for a pair or go with used ones that will likely break tomorrow (I've way too much experience with self-leveling headlights from my 2011 BMW 3 series days). I would rather not have to get involved with coding.

There are no "self-leveling Halogen headlights" existing for second-gen Minis. Only Xenon headlights are self-leveling. Halogen equipped Minis lack the level sensors fitted to front and rear control arms.
It's easy to distinguish Halogen and Xenon headlights. While Halogens come with a big reflector, Xenons have a projector lense.

I found these—https://karparts360.com/for-mini-cooper-headlight-assembly-2007-2015-halogen-w-yellow-turn-signal-w-o-auto-adjust-headlight-assembly-capa/ —so auto-adjust is not self-leveling? I have these in my garage waiting to be returned: https://karparts360.com/for-mini-coo...halogen-amber/ … I assume there is no chance I could use them? I do have an older dongle that bimmercode communicates with that I could potentially code out the self-levelling check with.
