R56: Where is Transponder Chip in Key FOB

I have R56 (Europe) no unlock button on door handle.

I only have one key + a used key from another car which I would like to program / add a new chip to.

I bought a Zed Bull programmer and have read the chip as Type 46 - see image
I also bought the wrong Transponder type so will have to re-order.

My question
Where is the transponder chip? Does anyone have a photo of one in place which will make it easier for me to locate.

I am assuming I cannot re-program the used key fob.

Thanks in advance ColinK

I don't know where it is on the MINI but I've done this with several cars now and they usually hide it in the plastic somewhere. You picture isn't big enough and is too dark for me to see it very well. It looks like one of the plastic has a huge "rib" going down in the middle. What is inside of that plastic rib? This is what the transponder looks like. It looks like it would fit perfectly under that rib.

Keep in mind they hide them well because they don't want you doing what you are doing. You are stealing $120 from someones pocket.

Strictly a guess, but I would say one of these two places look like good candidates. Don't be surprised to see plastic on-top of them to hide it away from prying eyes. Provide a better picture of this half because it looks most promising. I've had a few where I had to break plastic to get to it. Some nowdays that actually melt the transponder INTO a solid plastic key to hide it and make it nearly impossible to get to and ensure $$$ to their pockets.

Let us know.

2nd gen keys don't have the kind of chip. Ours is the fpc7942 i think. Look at the IC chip. Furthermore, once that chipped is programmed, you need another keyfob programmer to restore default factory file in for reprogramming.

If you want to make a key, simply buy a new one from ebay and use your programmer to make a second key. The issue now is that you need to get the eeprom from your CAS to input it into the programmer.

You are saying you need to reprogram the FOB every-time you change the battery? If so, that is taking the scam to a whole new level.

not sure where you quoted me on that lol....my comment was about adding/programming a new key to the car. If you replace the battery, you dont need to reprogram the original key.

Oh ok sorry. I guess there are two threads like this and I am getting them confused. The other one supposedly the person just changed the battery in the FOB...

Thanks for your reply.

As you suggest, the chip seems to be on the board and not replacable. I havew confirmed there is no seperate chipin the case.

Using the Zed Bull Programmer I get the following data from the key
ID: 62ebb699
Mode: Locked
Chip
PCF7953
Type: 46 Crypt Philips

But when I try to write to a Type 46 chip I get this message
This type of transponder cannot be cloned from the Key

I would appreciate if you could clarify your reply.
You say 1. "simply buy a new one from ebay and use your programmer to make a second key"

I do not see many new keys on ebay but this seems to be what I need - can you confirm?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Remote-Smar...temCondition=3

But then you say 2. "The issue now is that you need to get the eeprom from your CAS to input it into the programmer."

Are you saying I cannot do 1. until I "get the eprom form my CAS"

Can you link me to any guidance how to do that.

I am assuming it should be possible to reprogram an existing key to a used key, but can that be done with the Zed Bull Programmer? The message "This type of transponder cannot be cloned from the Key" suggests this programmer will nto do that.

I have tried programmign both a stand alone type 46 chip and a used remote - I get the same "cannot message"

Any further help would be appreciated.

ColinK

Since we are diving in a locksmith's profession, some specific information are not readily available. Having said that, in my endless search, the following are the highlights of what i now thus far. keep in mind I'm using tango programmer

1- you cannot reprogram a used/preassigned key.
2- to program a used key, you MUST virginized it using special tools like PFCXXX programmer.
3- I cannot find specific rom/eeprom files for mini coopers...only BMW files are available.
4- Xprog can viginize/unlock the chip on the bench but you need proper files to write back to the chip
5- to make a new key, you need to pull the eeprom from the CAS. I use R270. and you need either an original working key OR the ISN from the ECU/DME
6- Ebay keyfobs when programmed can only start the car BUT will not lock/unlock the car...I have successfully programmed ONLY 1 ebay keyfob to start and lock/unluck...I couldn't duplicate that on other minis.
7- Ebay keyfobs are ALL the same. there is no such comfort access one EVEN THOUGH they show the removable cover.

I bought 50 original mini keyfobs to test and unlock them but got stuck on finding the proper keyfob files to program the PFC79xx chip

Hi

Thanks for your reply.

I think I will try to find a local specialist and pay to have it programmed or to supply a new remote or manual key.

Thanks ColinK
