Valet key anyone?

When I picked up my Mini from delar last week they gave me two regular round remote keys and an uncut white plastic key taht looks like a valet key. The MA said that 2007s do not come with a valet key and that thing is of no use. However, it seems odd to me that Mini would leave something in a brand new car that resembles a valet key with no purpose.

Has anybody else received either a functioning valet key or an apparently useless one like the one I got?

I dont have an r56, but i picked up my 07 vert last week and it came with a black plastic key - which my MA said was simply a functioning wallet key, and will work on all doors/locks.

i got one too when i bought my 07' the MA said that its useless and that i can keep it as a souvineer.
i also asked if there was any way to make a spare with that plastic key and he said theres no way MINI would do that b.c. all lost keys are sent to Jersey to get replaced and you need to send in your VIN number etc...
so i guess im not the only one with a random plastic key sitting around.

I got the little white plastic piece as well. The MA didn't know what it was for but tried in in the fob and it seemed to allow for the fob functions to work. I can try it out later myself.

I can't figure out what the white "key" is for. I can get in the car and start it with just the empty fob (without any key inserted), but I can't start the car without the fob. Puzzling

It's a wallet key so you can unlock the car if you lock the keys in the car. I keep mine in my wallet for my 2005, just in case.

Are you talking about R56 or 2007 convertible. My R56 MCS with comfort access came with two round modules only.

Statment: 2007 R56 [NON CONVERTIBLES] only come with 2 key fobs, no wallet key or valet key.

If you purchase a 2007 Mini CONVERTIBLE, it is the same as the 2006 Convertible, and will come with a wallet key

How does it work, it won't slide in the key hole and it's proximity won't unlock the doors. My initial guess is that it will work in the fob if the fob loses it battery charge.

Maybe it's a piece of Mini jewelry. Put it on a chain and wear around your neck.

How come you accepted it without making your MA explain its use?

He didn't know what it's for either. It was the first one he'd seen. He tried to figure it out but the results were inconclusive.

LOL. Why do I have an image on the MA standing there with the key in his ear saying, "Nope, I don't feel anything."?
