R50/53 Wallet Key broke!
Wallet Key broke!
So I opened up my wallet today to get my ID out to get into the dorm, and I noticed the incredibly handy plastic wallet key was broken in half
Now, it's only been used a once or twice, primarily when I don't want to part with my real key when my parents want to drive, but I'm curious as to how much this tiny piece of plastic costs. I'm sure it won't be cheap. Has anyone else ever had this happen?

Actually, for a BMW part, custom cut, sent in from New Jersey, and including the little anti-theft chip, it's not too expensive: $30. For a sliver of plastic though, it's ludicrously expensive.
I lost mine and had it replaced. By the way, the dealership will need to make a copy of your driver's license and registration when you order the key. They verify your identity against your VIN# and the key gets cut in a plant in New Jersey and mailed back to the dealership (takes just a couple of days though).
There's also a key called the Valet key which looks identical to the ignition key except there are no buttons on it.
My '05 key required no programming. I think earlier years needed some coding/programming though.
