Anybody know of a lock set for OEM Roof Rack

I would like to replace the locks on my OEM roof rack, but it doesn't look like MiniMania carries the locks any more. A bunch of other locks look ALOT like the ones in the OEM mini, but I don't want to buy them to find out. Anyone know of a compatible lock for the OEM MINI roof rack for an R56?

Looks to be part number 82720303536, which is (unfortunately) NLA

If you can remove one of them from your rack, maybe you can take it to a rack shop and see what they have?

The roof rack is made by Thule. You can check to see if their lock will fit.

I will ask, why do you want to replace them? Is there something broken or not working right?

Like above, those locks are made by Thule, there are youtube videos out there that show how you can also fit the rocky mounts lock cylinders in a thule assembly. The thule locks can also be bought in 2 or 4 packs so that you can have one key for all the locks. You can also only buy the key of needed, just need the lock code

They are coded to the factory rack, Most people go to the dealership and they match up the keys they have to the numbers. I think its like a 3 digit number on the lock face.

The face plates on mine were really bad and when I replaced the face plate I mangled one of the locks "learning" how to remove them. They are actually really easy to remove, once you figure out that the key has to be in the lock to remove it ;0).
So .... I got the mangled lock to close but really need to replace it. Since they aren't that expensive in sets of 4, if you can find them. If these are in fact the same as Thule, then I guess I just need to figure out which Thule lock it matches and get that.

No longer available from dealer or MiniMania. Kinda like Windows XP.

Sometimes they keep them on hand, not for sale, i have seen them there in the past. They had them in a drawer for customers like the wheel lock also. Would be good to check first.

I had an issue with the wheel locks on my car. Called the Mini dealer in Allentown and was quoted over $125 to remove a lug nut. Called another Mini dealer in Morristown, NJ and they gave me the name of the MFG and said I would be better off calling the oem direct. Called and got two "keys" for $25.

Morristown didn't have the rack lock.

Funny thing is, this website keeps showing this lock from etrailer that looks just like the one in my rack. Just not confident enough to order it. I wrote them to ask. But they don't reply.

Ok,
just worth it to check, sounds like the dealers did not want to help out. I know my local dealers have in the past.
The codes go from 001...041

I was hoping that someone had already figured out which Thule locks worked in the OEM mini rack so I wouldn't have to go trial and error.

If no one here has that info, I will post if I ever figure it out on my own. Not likely to happen any time soon as it works for now and is not a pressing issue.

Did you try the NAM market place with a “WTB” (wanted to buy) for a lock or lock set? Sometimes people have odd things like this around that they might what to get rid of.

Usually, if someone knows something, they will respond on NAM.

Thule locks can be used. I had to replace the factory locks due to not having the key. I did have to trim a tiny bit of the lock surround to get the Thule locks to slide in.

Two questions: 1. Was this for the OEM R56 Roof rack?

and
#2. Which Thule locks did you buy?

Yes. It was for the OEM R56 roof rack. I’ll have to check on the locks as I had them lying around from other racks I have. The locks are about 5-6 years old. As far as I know, Thule only makes one style of locks??

Like I mentioned above, I had to trim the housing on the rack to get the lock to slide in. It was a very small amount. Let me know if your locks don’t slide in and I will show where/what I trimmed.
