I'm thinking about buying a cheap OBD2 auxiliary gauge, primarily so I can see coolant temperature while driving. This one is about $35. I see some have used the more expensive one. Any thoughts on this? One question I have is does it automatically turn on when you start the car, or do you have to turn it on separately?

I use DashCommand on my iPod with a cheap WiFi OBD2 reader. Just buy a cheap phone mount on top of that and you can monitor a whole slew of readouts. Before I got my Cravenspeed mount I think I got a windshield mount for $15 and the WiFi dongle was another $10.

Those phone based systems look great. I have an old iPhone 4S that I could use. However, I wanted something that would automatically turn on when I start the car, and something that I didn't have to charge separately.
I went ahead and ordered the one I linked. I hope it does the things I want, as the description was lacking in descriptiveness
Using DashCommand also... I use the GoPointBT1 but you can use much cheaper OBD2 adapters like the Foseal $19 one and it will work fine. Yes, they shut off when the ignition is off.

I getcha. My iPod is more or less always plugged in charging. I don't use it outside the car so battery preservation means nothing to me. All I have to do is unlock it when I get in the car and it automatically connects to the OBD2 signal. The dongle turns off when the car shuts off and I just hit the lock button on my iPod.
I am curious - I cannot see things like water temp, oil temp, and oil pressure using TorquePro on my phone with an OBD2 device plugged in to the car on our 2010 MCS hardtop.
Are you saying this is possible doing it another way?
+1 for ScanGauge II. You can monitor multiple parameters and the gauge can be configured to show your choice of four readings at a time without having to scroll through.
In the 3rd Gen cars the oil pressure can be accessed at the OBD port. The model specific programming for the SG II has oil pressure as an option. Not available on earlier Gens.
Saw the pics of your car Goldsmithy. It looks great!
I have used Torque Pro for my gauges on my android phone for many years on many vehicles (11 Ram Diesel, 03 Olds Alero, 1999 Grand Cherokee, 2 Coopers a 08 MC and a 09 MCS(R55)) ODB2 bluetooth in all, the only headache is changing the ODB2 device in the app when I change vehicles. I wish the app would save the ODB2 adapter in the car settings like it does the dash board if you want it to. But yes, NO Oil pressure which I would really love to have on my daily driver the 08 MC it has almost 190,000 miles on it.
