Camshaft Question

Looking at the Shrik Camshaft with the 10mm lift. What are your thoughts and what are the gains? Any tune required? Sound change? RPM Redline increase? if so, to what? thanks for the help!

AFAIK, There are no aftermarket cams (yet) for the N18.

Their website says it fits. I haven't tried it yet that's why I'm asking about it. Has one used these?

minimania site says it does NOT fit a 2012 MCS.

Tigger gave you a pretty good explanation why cams are not available for the N18.

This site says it fits though.

I highly doubt turner knows their MINIs like minimania. Or Tigger.

But hey, if you think they are right, buy it. Worst that can happen is that it doesnt fit, you blame it on Turner, and they give you a refund.

Could you refresh my memory as to why Tigger said it wouldn't work?

Hi AFN704,

The intake cam system design on the N18 is completely different than the N14 and the cam profile is different due to the way the Valvetronic system works. Note that the lobes on the intake cam are almost oval whereas the lobes on the exhaust cam are much more pointy. The geometry of the intermediate rocker arms is what requires this. If you placed an N14 cam in an N18 head the valve lift and duration would be radically off.

We did some research on an N18 performance cam by altering the dimensions of the intermediate cam but had to abandon the project since BMW wouldn't divulge the data we needed on the Valvetronic system.

NO N14 cams won't fit an N18 engine. We have our own performance cams and are working to make some for the N18, but the valvetronic is picky so it's been slow to make a set that will not cause any lights.

I would suggest doing all the other mods first on an N18 anyways as the valvtronic allows for lift change by the ECU.
Intercooler, Downpipe, Tune etc.

Yeah I've done pretty much everything else aside from big turbo and meth. What about an upgraded head? What kind of gains can be expected from that? What would the benefits be? I may just focus on suspension then. I thought the n14 and n18 were very similar with just a few changes. I guess there's more than I thought though. Thanks for the information everyone!
