I'm gonna be buying an optima red top battery and wanted to know if anyone has bought from this place and how the customer service is. Also is this the correct battery I need for my 07 cooper s?
I went to optimabatteries.com and it indicates they don't have a direct fit. I've never purchased from that site, but I have used Optima batteries before and I'd hesitate to order it online without knowing it'd be a perfect fit.
Are u serious that we need to have them reset the computer just by installing a new battery? Mini always trying to make money one way or another.
You will need to determine if your R56 is equiped with an IBS system. Look at the negative battery terminal as it will have the intelligent battery sensor (IBS). If it doesn't you do not have to do anything, if it does you can register the battery yourself. If the battery is not registered and it has the IBS system, the charge program will be incorrect, shortening battery life. We have a tech article on our site HERE. It can help you with its replacement and registration if it needs it. Let me know if you have any questions.
May sound pricey, but in my boats and Wave Runners I have Odysseys last over 8-years. I have a 2005 with the original Odyssey. When the time comes that's what I'll be buying for the Mini. http://shop.odysseybattery.com/p/pc1200mjt?pp=12

Thanks pelican, you seem to have answered all my questions on all my threads. Thanks!!!!

Pelican I took a pic of the battery. Is the circle thing the IBS?
Can you take a closer up picture of the negative terminal? The one on the left in the image. I don't think I see the sensor on the back of it. If you view the image below (from our battery tech article) the green arrow pointing to the negative terminal. At the back of it you can see a black L shaped unit. That's the IBS.

Hey you go pelican. I'm guessing I'm go to go? And no reprogramming needed.
I don't have a Black box on the negative terminal, but it isn't a single connector either. Is this IBS? Thanks
Looks to be an IBS system. It could be that the plastic case around ours that you can see from the image above (post #12) is missing from yours. Definitely looks like it has the BSD interface and the IBS unit without the cover.
If you have the BMW scan tool you can register it yourself easily. We go over this step in our article on our site. Or, you can have a MINI indy shop do it at way less than the dealer.

I don't have the scan tool. I have the Carly for BMW app which supports registration on my other vehicle but not the R56.
Yes, thats it, just missing that case cover and updated design.
The negative cable in this picture appears to be the same as a BMW negative ground cable. The MINI cable apparently is no longer available, and has been replaced by the BMW cable, which doesn't have a black cover like the MINI cable.
I checked my car by putting the BMW cable on my '09 Clubman (September 18, 2008 build date). HOWEVER, the BMW cable requires an adapter because the connector for the extra IBS wires is different. The adapter is about $50 and the BMW cable is about $150. As far as I could find out, the BMW cable will not work without the adapter.
The BMW cable didn't fix my problems...clock, calendar, and trip meter resetting every night, and some other issues that I thought my be related but were not.....
