Afraid I'd have to disagree with you my friend. Had a Hyundai found it be a POS. Hell even toyota put out a memo 4 or 5 years ago that they were reducing the quality of their engines because they weren't making enough money.
I'm on my second Cooper now. Put 176,000 miles on the first one and only had to change a battery before I sold it and bought my current one. Love these little cars. I've found that cars just like with aircraft, if provided the right preventative maintenance will give you years of trouble free fun. Unless is was built on a Monday or Friday that is lol.
BTW on the blower fan... Why not pull it, remove the resistor, buy a replacement at your local electronics store (radio shack) and replace it. Probably cost $5 to $10.

I am in the same boat - I have a 2003 R50 with auto climate control, and the AC blower died. With the glove box out, I can concur the AC blower resistor is not in the location shown in any picture I have found. The bentley service manual references it may be on the other side on a 2002, but it is nowhere to be found.
Any assistance on how to diagnose the issue and and approach to repair? If I remove the cabin filter, I can easily spin the fan, so there is no issue with the bearings or blockage.
Thanks

Well, on a monday or Friday, and you forgot to include Lunch Breaks, I saw the news story of the line workers at xxxx smoking doobies, crack, and drinking 40's on their lunch break.
but as for the Hyundai, you could be right on that comment, I haven't owned one so I cant say anything but, they put a 10 year, bumper to bumper warranty, no deductible, nothing, bring it in and will will fix free of charge for 10 years or 100,000 miles. They couldn't have been that bad if they are will to go there.( that was back some years ago, i don't know what their warranty is now) But as far as comparing A mini to a Honda or a Toyota, (resell, quality, and comfort) I see a HUGE difference in the quality of parts & the engineering between the 3 cars. Hell, I tell you what," if you can find me (A GOOD, DETAILED, USEFUL, & ""Correct)"" set of instructions, on what parts have to be removed, and how to remove them to replace the blower motor resistor. Part number # 64111499122
keep in mind, there 2 different resistors for this one repair, mine is a 2002 Mini Cooper S that has the (*Auto Air option*). all the manuals show how to replace the Other resistor, it is located right there under & to the left of the glove box.(USELESS if they don't provide a complete service procedure manual but for part of the car, & many of the parts your referred over to a BMW manual for the part and procedure???)This resistor, they all say it is in the same spot, but it is not there, and they will argue with you till there blue in the face saying it is there, (it is not there) The only thing there is a male to female 3 prong plug that runs over the evap wall. But you cant get to it, because there is not a DIY guide anywhere that gives you detailed instructions on what to remove and how to remove it to get to the other side of that evep wall (if you even can). Ill give you $5 dollars. There are a lot of Nonsensical, things that have been engineered into this car. The hood release on the passanger side, I can give you several good reasons that shouldn't be there. the front bumper is mounted on with 2 bolts going through a plastic hole? 2 washer fluid containers? twice as likely to have a problem, 2x the cost to fix it, cup holders are useless. the key is cut so it cost you 4x as much to have it replaced. the stereo looks like the pioneer super tuner I had in 1984, the factory fog lights i cant even tell there on, and how they function makes the useless. the battery location. the rear wiper size, cost 2x because of its size. I can go on, and on and on. these things have been engineered out of a Honda and Toyota. as far as Toyota cutting back on its engine quality, how many cars go 1 million miles, other than the toyotas that are on record for doing it. why make a motor that is going to go 1 million miles if 99% of them are done at 300,000 miles. there just saving money on something that we americans weren't taking advantage of to start with. Believe it or not, I was standing in a Toyota dealers showroom in Winston-Salem NC on the day a man drove in the dealership with a toyota that he had put 1 millionth mile on the car, as he drove into the parking lot, and Toyota Gave him a brand new Toyota Camry XLE V6 totally Free.
The parts are not no where near the quality as a Honda OEM part, and the resale doesn't even compare. My mini has creeks and rattles all through it and as i am working my way through it tracking them and fixing them, is surprisingly cheap parts compared to my Honda. Honda and Toyota dont engineer there cars like this,
The mini's parts are double the price of a Honda or Toyota, Why is beyond me, It is not a BMW. Maybe by who owns the mini brand, but thats all.
If someone were to get me & you in a parking lot & that person said, I have a brand new Honda, & a brand new mini. I am going to give you two people these two cars free. Here are the keys who wants what car, there yours totally free, & we had to flip a coin to determine who get first pick,& I won. I would take the Honda, I'll let you take the chance.
