R56 Something moves
Something moves
Inconsistently when shifting from 2nd to first at stop there is a movement "upfront" that I can feel through the pedals. 2012 MCS with 9,000. Doesn't happen all the time and of course not at dealer.
It is a "bump" but barely audible.
Thanks!
Help.
I have replicated it over and over, a couple of times with parking brake on. Just not everytime.
What could this be? The Mini is tight otherwise!

Fast forward mechanic could not duplicate.
Drove base loaner and it was quite tight and missed the slop between shifts.
It was in for 10k service & gave a reading that it needs new rear brakes. It didn't. They did software upgrade. Guess what? All the slop is gone. Could have been the advance and how the engine responded to lifting throttle but its tight.
It also had the water pump replaced. It was leaking. While a wear & tear item this is unusual to me with this low mileage.
Happy motoring, Peeps

Talk to Way. He has some motor mounts and torque arm inserts that will cure this movement in a heartbeat. Mine did it to. I added just the lower torque arm inserts. Its all gone. The total cost was about $70 and it took about 20 minutes.
If you are ever looking to tighten up the lower engine mount, we carry the Powerflex version. Big bushing insert and the little bushing for the lower engine mount. With 9,000 miles its unlikely its has wear in the rubber , but the Powerflex does tighten it up.
Here is the lower mount:

And the Powerflex : Performance and Race ( performance is for most people unless your tracking all the time ).

I have had no issues with vibration or shaking of any kind with the inserts -- they've been there 60,000 miles now.

Again thanks everyone.
Having installed aftermarket braces & bushings on earlier performance cars I am familiar with their benefit.
May I remind you all with a big smile that the software upgrade fixed the problem. It may not have made it autocross ready but it transformed the car from original/new to one with no slop. It was built late 2011 into 2012 as a 2012 model.
It could be throttle mapping as it drives away from a stop without any feathering of the clutch and throttle that was previously required.
I took this to be the nature of the beast and adapted my technique to get a smooth take off.
Now it's just easy.
