CA Smog Check - Warning lights galore when done
Had CA smog check done on our '07 MCS today, required due to 6yr registration renewal. They run it on a Dyno for a few mins at 15 and 25mph, front wheels only. Car passed fine, no issues with the smog check.
Pulling away from the mechanic the steering got heavy, ABS light came on, check engine light, DSC light, and brake lights come on. Pull over, stop car, shut it down, start it up, all lights cleared except check engine, car feels fine.
I recall seeing something about this in the past from dyno runs, so I just left and went home, hooked up my code reader and found:
P1774 - CAN Wheel Speed Rear Left Wheel, No Signal
P1775 - CAN Wheel Speed Rear Right Wheel, No Signal
Cleared the codes, car is fine. Definitely related to running car with parking brake on, wheels on dyno, rear wheels not spinning.
Anyway, for those in CA coming up on their 6 year (first smog check required if you owned since new) heads up.

Yes, I just had the same problem today after first CA smog! Tech said during test (DMV link failed and shop computer screwed up) which they felt might have caused the check engine light to come on ( it has never done in the 5 years of owning her) and test was canceled. He said "it" just needs to be reset, and gave me the codes P1774 & P1775 same as cnolan. I called MINI dealership and they would not tell me anything other then bring the car in so they could check it for $$$. I went home and checked the internet and I did the reset with putting in fob, holding down start, trip and RPM **** deal. All better! Took the car back and passed smog and when I left I had the whole light display as well. I went and told the tech who said just drive it and system will reset. All did but he check engine light (again!). At home I did the hold down the start button routine again but the check engine light stayed on. So, we (hubby) then disconnected ground cable to the battery for 10 minutes. All seems fine now. Just plain unnerving to say the least. I have a 2007 with sport package.

It's normal for vehicles to turn on all sort of warning lights after a dyno test in smog shop.
All you have to do is to turn off the car, wait a couple seconds and turn it back on and drive. It should clear itself.
The newer cars have much less tolerance to the shenanigans at smog dyno, so you do have to clear the code with a scanner.

What are they doing that causes the computer to puke like that?

It's simple... two wheels spin while the other two wheels don't spin. Computer logs this as an anomaly and tries to warn the user. But when you drive the car and all four wheels rotate at the same rate, it drops the anomaly error.
