How ghetto is this?

Let me preface this by saying, I've owned too many fast cars and motorcycles to be worried about a 1-2hp power loss in my mini, and I'm to cheap to spend $200+ on just an intake

That being said I did some experimenting yesterday and conjured up this for $25

Sounds better, I'm just in it for the noise

so you made a short-ram intake but left the stock box to bring air into the bay?

Interesting concept, which cone air cleaner did you use?

Lazy for leaving the stock stuff still in there but, not ghetto. Put a PVC pip connecting the pipe to the turbo and then we will talk.

I took out the stock airbox and did this:

I'm going to get the ALTA one soon, but hey, for ~$60 it does the same job! sounds good too, and when the weather is cold, screams above 4,000RPMs, lol!! and best part is...no compression surge!

and I left the intake piping that routes air below from the stock box to keep the air flowing under it, and the hood scoop is bringing air of top!

I think you are using the wrong terminology. Compression surge is taking the turbo out of its efficiency range, compressor stall is the sound you hear if you dont have a bov/bpv or a bov/bpv that only opens on high boost, low boost changes in throttle will make the noise as well.

^^^ Compressor stall

^^^ thats Compressor surge
