CAI and other mod ideas

I am thinking of buying a cold air intake. Will it make the car more noisy? What are the benefits of installing one. Here is one I found surfing through the forum.

http://www.waymotorworks.com/ddmwork...et-intake.html

Do you have any other mod ideas that dont cost too much but are good bang for the buck.

Thank you.

Theres tons of CAIs to purchase for the MINI. Do your research and kind of figure out which one best fits your needs. Jump on youtube search for the intake and you can hear what sound it will produce.

benefits is a slight increase in HP and allows your turbo to give off a cool sound as well !!

When Way said this to me and I listened. I became a happier motor... great bang for your buck, if not the best one for the MINI

Think am going to place on order for the torque arm. Does it make the daily ride more rough?

Rough during idle. You will feel the engine's vibration. But you will feel and get the better response.

I've sold over 100 of these and only had one person think it rattled at idle, but I actually have a softer one avail for that person. Oh and FYI they had an automatic so I think that is part of it.

How difficult is it to install the torque arm insert? At that price it seems like a solid improvement. I'd like to get a better exhaust (I'm a "sound" guy) but I have to save up for...well...a while.

I might have to stop buy your shop this weekend. I live over on Cheshire Bridge (cough cough...the safer area...cough cough) so I'm only about five miles away from you guys. I'm just getting into cars/modding, so I've got a lot to learn.

I've heard that the torque arm bushing doesn't make any improvement with an automatic equipped MINI. Is that true?

Does anyone here have experience with the torque arm bushing on an automatic? Is it even the same part?

Something that we debated on this BB a while back was if the typical CAI is really what it purports to be... a Cold Air Intake. The stock setup draws air through a duct that terminates right up front, behind the grille. That air is at ambient temp, or technically, cold. Most CAIs are located up high behind the engine, and draw all air from within the engine compartment. That's hot air, not cold. Yes, somebody makes one that runs a plastic duct to the hood scoop, but by the time you add that bit I'm not sure what the advantage would be over stock. Seems to me if you want the best of both worlds, get your cold air through the stock setup and pull it through a low resistance air filter.

This, of course, is just my opinion.

The main benefit is that it will enhance the bottom line revenue of the seller you purchase it from.

Yes, it will likely make your car noisier. Some people like this for whatever reason. If that's your thing, then maybe it's a worthwhile purchase.

Bang for the buck, performance-wise, is horrible. Poorly designed ones may even cost you some horsepower, provide inferior filtration, or just not do anything of any benefit. If your motor is tuned, and/or you have a bigger turbo, trick header, or some other breathing-related upgrades, then you have a far better chance of benefiitting.

Remember - your stock intake IS a CAI, by design. It's a highly engineered piece of equipment built specifically for your car by the engineers that designed the rest of the engine. And you've already paid for it.

Interesting!! What do you think about rear sway bars? Are you against mods in general?

It's only two bolts so a first timer should be able to do it.

Yes it does make a difference on an AT car. We've sold a ton so I'm surprised someone hasn't chimed in.
