Extended Maintenance and Warranty Program - 6 year 100k miles Contract Terms

Here are the contract terms of the 6year/100k mile extended maintenance from MINI USA. Price should be $1395 as set by MINI USA, but i imagine you might be able to negotiate that price.

This might be something to sticky.

UPDATE:
Here is a new WARRANTY direct from MINI
http://www.miniusa.com/sections/moto...Protection.pdf

See post #103 for Morristown Mini's pricing of $1295

You certainly do not get much for your money. That is one of the most restrictive extended service contracts I have seen. They should at least extend the powertrain warranty for that much money.

This brings a question to mind...it says right there that the clutch is considered a "normal wear and tear" item that IS covered by the maintenance contract, and yet we hear often about MINI trying to charge people for clutch replacements as "abuse." One of my prior cars was an E46 M3 and it was pretty common for clutches to be replaced under the maintenance contract no questions asked. I don't remember ever reading on Bimmerfest of BMW pulling the same crapola that MINI does.
That said, $1395 is pretty high for glorified oil changes every 15K miles. If you do get a complete brake job, clutch, or two, then it's a bargain.

Keep in mind that this is an extended maintenance service program, not a warranty. This program extends the standard 3 year / 36K mi maintenance service to 6 years / 100K mi, and is only for maintenance service. It does not warranty any mechanical component, but they will cover a clutch replacement. This is separate and independent from the 4 year/ 50K mi bumper-to-bumper warranty.

My last mini got a set of brakes around the 30k mark. So if my driving is similar i will need two to three brake jobs in 100k miles. I don't know how long a clutch is suppose to last, but gotta figure i would need one in 100k miles. Add in the other services the computer will ask for in the 100k miles it seems like a decent deal. I plan to shop it around and hopefully get it for $1000.

People have gotten it for as low as $695. Definitely shop around.

That's my point. From reading numerous threads, MINI tries to deny replacing burned up clutches under either warranty OR maintenance plans despite it clearly being listed as a wear item. I don't understand what leg they're standing on.

It's really just oil/filter changes, brakes, and clutch. Nothing else that I can see. No shocks, motor, interior stuff, radio, steering, windows, leaks of fluids. No warranty items at all. So what's a set of brakes cost for the car anyway (from a mechanic, not the ripoff dealers)? You're gonna get one set of calipers/rotors, a few oil changes ($40 each around here with synthetic oil), and if you're lucky a clutch (maybe). For $1300.

I've had my MCS for about 6 months, and just passed 20,000 miles yesterday.

I am quite tempted by this extended plan.

It also covers factory recommended maintenance as listed in the owners Service and Warranty Booklet in addition too brakes, rotors, clutch, wiper blades.

I read that as if one of the computer items (that has a timer or milage indicator) it is covered.

Fishbert: 20K mi in 6 months? Stating the obvious, that equates to 3300 mi / month! Yikes! What is your daily commute? You must be one of the leaders in Happy Motoring!

Probably, but the stuff that kills you is stuff that breaks, like suspension, AC compressor, timing chains, power windows. Stuff like that isn't covered. Clutches usually last more than 100k, brakes usually get done about once in the time period, so on the average car the dealer only does one full 4 wheels brake job and some oil changes (maybe the spark plugs), for $1300. I bet a brake job is less than half that.

I think that when it comes to clutch replacements, MINI is holding all the aces. They have statistics to prove what "normal wear and tear" is. If 60% - 70% of drivers get 80,000 miles on a clutch, and another 10% - 15% get 60,000 miles, you're going to have a hard time saying that burning through a clutch in 40,000 miles is "normal wear and tear".

(Note that my stats are pure conjecture. I'm just illustrating the point that they can accurately define "normal", we can't.)

Oh yeah, I'm shooting for a high score!

It's actually been about 7 months, now that it's October. I took delivery in early March, and leaving the house this morning, the odometer read 20,125.
My commute is about 50 miles, if I take the highway. Through the city is shorter, but it takes just as much time and has much more stop-and-go traffic (I prefer go-and-go, myself).

My first Mini (07 MCS - Lease) got a full set of brakes and rotors within 30k miles. At that rate i could clear 3 or 4 sets of brakes. Even going to local mechanic i am nearly breaking even.

I think we all agree 1395 is to much to pay, you might get your moneys worth but it would be close. For $695 i would say its a steal. Finding some sort of middle ground will be where most people land.

It would be interesting to hear what people that bought it have to say about it. Probably mostly Gen 1 owners based on age/milage.

Thats a warranty against stuff that breaks. Not scheduled maintenance (which is 3yr/36k).

wow! That's some motoring.

An interesting tidbit you may be interested in - MINIs come with a 2 year unlimited mileage international warranty. If you have something break at 1.5 years w/ 70k miles you may want to go across a border somewhere and try to get it fixed.

I don't know if you have to show proof of residency in the foreign country to take advantage of it. Also, I'm not sure if this warranty is from MINIworld or MINIUSA.

It IS good if you buy your MINI in the USA then move to another country. Buy your MINI in another country and you may or may not be protected.

Does Mini offer an actual extended warranty or is this extended maintenance plan all that is offered?

Apparently MINI is now inaugurating its own extended warranty program, which has several options of coverage to choose from. Haven't seen any pricing details as of yet.

When you guys talk about "shopping around", what exactly do you mean? Contacting different MINI dealerships or those maintenance companies like USFidelis or GetMogi? Can you finance these plans?

These maintenance programs and now the Mini Warranty program are both MINI USA programs so you would call other dealerships to get the best price.

Has anyone kept their car 6 years? I can't make it over 12 months without changing it out.
