Just picked up an R56, I'm in LOVE!

all white, red leather interior. Used 07 MCS
Had my doubts about the Mini and it was a toss up between that, a Corvette Z06, or BMW Z4.
Decided on the mini (obviously) because it had back seats for the occasional passenger. Called insurance company right after putting down a deposit and found out it was the most expensive to insure, that really had me bummed out - - $2500/yr :( :( :(. How does that even work anyway? Mini S more expensive to insure than a Z06 or Z4???

Anyway, had no choice, picked up the car today and it was a BLAST!!! May not be a convertible or have 400+HP, but I was driving with my friend and we were able to pickup girls and put them in the back seat. That's worth all the money in the world, lol.

Grinning from ear to ear right now.

Huh? I'd be looking for a new insurance place...my Mini has always been around 60-70 bucks a month, now it's down to just about $50 a month for full coverage. $208 bucks a month? Do you have a horrible driving history or something? Sheesh!

Those are high prices, mine is about $1100 USD to insure a yr (I'm 26), Although it is more expensive to insure than my VW R32 by a moderate amount.

More than a vette? That's crazy. My '93 Mustang GT cost more to insure than my 2009 MCS. Almost 50% more. Time to change insurers.

Congrats on the new MINI! I'm not quite sure why your insurance is so expensive on that car though. Mine was only slightly more than my Isuzu Trooper SUV I used to drive. I'm sure you will enjoy!

Edit: Didn't see that you bought a MCS. It still baffles me why it would be so steep though.

Generally speaking Mini should be relatively cheap to insure, but your insurance company in your area might have different view on Mini. Here are the two extreme ends :

The most and least expensive vehicle to insure 2009:

Here in Ontario (Canada), insurance companies are given the right to rape as they please. I have a clean record and I know if I shopped around, I'll most likely find someone willing to insure my Mini for maybe 20-30% lower, but finding a company willing to do that will be a challenge.

The going rate here for a econobox beater is $1100/yr. Slap on a turbo it's double penetration time... no lube.

urameatball (nice name by the way), I also pay around 1100/yr and I'm 26 myself. You should check into it and see why your insurance place is charging that gripload. Congrats on your R56 by the way. You'll have an awesome time. Every day is an event by just driving a MINI

Interesting group of cars you were cross-shopping. I'm glad you're enjoying the new car.

The modest insurance cost was one reason we bought the mini. I pay less than $300 for 6 mos. for full coverage.

choice

Well first, your choices were interesting. Is it just a chick magnet? You must be very young and have huge ticket problems. I KNOW you will enjoy the MINI. The vet is for when you are older anyway. 50+ don't you think? I can only assume that CANADA has HUGE insurance prices and it will be refreshing when you shop around for a new insurance. Now it's time to join a club. Or start one of your own. I wish you well up there in Cananda. -- Stacy

Choices are merely based on what I would like to drive for fun, I basically narrowed it down to one car from every class (of sports cars) and ended up with those 3.
I'm 29, clean record.
Lastly, girls are on my mind all the time(like any other guy), but it was never a factor for buying the mini. Being a photographer makes me pretty popular with lots of girls already, the car is for my own enjoyment.

oh, and I'm not starting or joining a club. Life is busy enough as it is.

Pepper white was my first choice but when I decided to buy a JCW, one wasn't available (I'm too impatient to wait for an order)

Your white with red is CLASSIC... that is SO COOL.

I'd love to see more pics...

Very nice, very nice....

Mark

PS. The odd thing is being a motorhead I used to hate old corvettes with red interiors, now as I get older, I love red interiors.... go figure.

Well, actually, this is a club. And it keeps us busy...off and on. When not out driving the MINI.

Hey--Congratulations! That is cool that the MINI came out on top. I love mine so totally understand where you're coming from. Have a blast and be safe out there...

Your ride looks neat. Congrats!!! I am (almost) in the market for a used mini(maybe S)..Do you mind sharing how much you paid for it and did you get any extd. maintenance or warranty plans?

NO &*%$^% WAY

If I were you I would get another Agent. You are being screwed big time. I had a Corvette and was paying twice as much for less coverage then my JCW. Shop around and you will be surprised at how little it costs to insure a Mini Cooper.
That is if you have a good driving record. If your record is bad there is nothing you can do except "PAY UP"

Very, very nice car. Normally don't like PW but that one looks fantastic. I'm sure you're thrilled with your purchase.

Although I live in Kentucky, my insurance is ~$100 a month for full coverage on my baby. I'm 20, clean record... but he's also a regular Cooper, not S... so that makes a huge difference, eh? How lame!
