HOw do I take the inside trunk cover off in a 2008 cooper s?

I am trying to install a bar on the trunk of my 2008 cooper s. It will be used to pull down with to shut the trunk. How do I take the inside trunk lid cover off? I see two star head screws but it seems to be fastened around the perimeter. There are also two rubber wedges near the top that I took out and can't tell if there is some sort of latch in the hole or not. Any help would be appreciated as I am tired of pulling down on the paint to shut the trunk. Thanks to all. This forum has saved me so much time and $$. Keep up the good advice...

are you trying to drill through the trunk so that you can have a handle installed on the exterior to pull down on from the outside?

Besides the 2 screws, simply pull/pry the panel off from 8 attachment clips.

That panel is on there good.It will take a good amount of force to pop out those clips.

ok I know its your car and you can do what you want with it, but you drilling through your trunk and putting on a handle will look better than finger prints on your hatch?? seriously? You must have found the most amazing handle ever to make that possible. Can't you just keep 1 white cotton glove in your car if you're that obsessed with not having finger prints on the hatch? It would save money and avoid having your car look like a piece of luggage.

I use the Rectangular Latch to pull down the Boot Door. With a good bit of force it closes and locks with out much problem.

I also loop a couple of fingers through the latch to pull the boot lower then I place my hand on the license plate to close the rest of the way. I don't even get dirty fingers.

I personally use the handle on either side of the hatch inside and then finish closing by pushing on the license plate....I never touch the paint with this method. Just a thought....
