Anybody have an opinion on which CAI is the best (sounding/performance) for the $$?? Maybe somebody has tried a couple different one? Alta, DDM, K&N???

i'm curious to know which CAI retains the power at the lower rpms. a lot of times these intakes gain power at the higher rpm but lose power at the lower rpms.

Check the modifications/drivetrain section, there has been/is a lot of discussion on this. Currently it looks like just about all the intakes suffer from excessive under hood temps causing them to be "hot" air intakes at idle and low speeds.

i am not a mini owner YET, but on a turbo car COLD air is BEST my filter is located in the almost level with bottom of car body, if you want the best benefits it must take in OUTSIDE air, and i don't have water problems with water or snow in 150,000 miles of installed use in penna,no extra water valves either just K+N filter and carbon fiber tube, i also removed the restrictive screen and plastic grid inside the MAF, also still original

thats what i want to avoid. with these warm-air-intakes, you get the nice sound but also an annoying hesitation with first-gear starts and low rpms. the power doesn't seem to kick in until past 4-5k rpm. at least that was my experience with other cars.

Wow, you just opened up a can of worms
Seriously though, there's no definitive "winner" with CAI's....

This deals with the R56 S only and is NOT intended as a slam against anyone else's products!

I have the DDM Works Race Intake System (RIS) and I personally think that it's the only true cold air intake out there. I don't see how the other manufacturers can call a system a CAI if they are pulling under-hood air with only a couple of walls to block two/three sides of the filter.

Admittedly, I haven't looked at very closely at the others that are just now starting to use a sealed system similar to DDM's that pull air from outside of the engine bay though.

im completly happy wit my k&n

i just ripped ot the stock air box and threw on a K&N cone filter

if you remove the honeycomb peice in hood scoop you will get enough fresh air to avoid the bogging in low rpm's

I installed the Alta on our JCW this weekend and while I cant say who has the best I do not feel any diffrence on the low end or high ens as I only have 100 miles on the car but, the sound alone made the purchase worth every penny. The ebgine has a very strong sound and the BOV Pssssst sounds great.

I'm curious about this also, is there any others besides Alta, DDM and K&N?

And does anyone make an intake for the Cooper? I haven't found one.

anyone know if a CARB exempt air intake exists for those of us who live in California (home of the strictest emission laws in the country). I do know that the JCW intake is exempt, yet would like something that is less $$ and gives better performance.
