This thread is gonna be fun...

Dunno about the MINI--since mine's still on the bleeping OCEAN--but my past sticks have always done this. Doesn't strike me as something to worry about.

"Does your shifter wiggle..." Wow.

well i ask because i don't remember having the play until the dealer replaced the shift ****. when i picked up the car, the **** was loose. it would turn as i shift. then i accidentally press on it hard enough to make it click and now it stays in place so i don't know if the dealer messed with anything else.

its been a few years since my last manual so i don't remember if this is the norm. hopefully it is.

I have a little play with my stick but if you have seen my wife you would know why. If you are super concerned about it get some polyurethane bushings.

Really? Thats strange. Its supposed to match the trim, so your should be silver. First Mini misbadges some Minis, and now there installing incorrect trim? Oh man...

Look at it this way; if you ever switch to the chrome line interior thats one less piece to worry about!! I just ordered a chrome line retrofit and if I want that chrome piece I have to buy a brand new shift boot (50 bucks)!!

It is a cable shifter, it will have some amount of play. Whether or not it should be a 1/2" is hard to say unless people actually start measuring.

Mine was tight when new, but after a year of lots of fun, it's getting a bit looser. Could be 1/4" worth.

I can't quite tell if that's a good or a bad thing...

Uhm...ditto to the above response. Getting broken in or just broken...?

Ah, this thread. Love it.

Off topic but I have something to add: A "few" '09 JCW's in Build Week 23 escaped the factory with a big mistake! I have Redwood Red Lounge Leather with black interior side panels. (They should be red) Thanks Mini-the black panels are wicked!
