Winter tires and sensors question....

Can I just buy a set of aftermarket rims and winter tires without the sensors? Will it just send me a signal/code in the car. I don't need to spend $200 for the sensors and valves for the 4 months of having them on imo.

What did you guys do?

The "check tire" light will be on at all times if you don't have sensors. I think the beeping stops after a period of time but I haven't tested it.

I bought sensors for me new wheels, seems silly to not spend $200 for a good safety feature.

kindly take your right-wing propoganda out of your sig line. If you're going to support one candidate or another at least have the decency to research baseless claims from your spam filled in box. From snopes.com:
"I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction."

This statement is a rewording of a passage from page 261 of The Audacity of Hope, in which Barack Obama spoke of the importance of not allowing inflamed public opinion to result in innocent members of immigrant groups being stripped of their rights, denied their due as American citizens, or placed into confinement, as was done with Japanese-Americans during World War II. The original contains no specific mention of "Muslims":

"In the wake of 9/11, my meetings with Arab and Pakistani Americans, for example, have a more urgent quality, for the stories of detentions and FBI questioning and hard stares from neighbors have shaken their sense of security and belonging. They have been reminded that the history of immigration in this country has a dark underbelly; they need specific reassurances that their citizenship really means something, that America has learned the right lessons from the Japanese internments during World War II, and that I will stand with them should the political winds shift in an ugly direction"

It does not take a rocket scientist to check them.

FlyingZ06,
So you actually have the book, you have read it, and can point to the quote in your signature line? If not, you should fear the person that gave you this misinformation, not the person to whom you attribute it. Don't worry, the White House can stay white on the outside.

The sensors are on the inside of the wheel. I have not found a mod how to turn off the warning. Sounds like a mod that many would like to have, though. I have to agree, it seems like good idea to put an extra set of sensors on your winter rims.

What's your point? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that you can't monitor pressure on all four wheels while the car is in motion.

It has been reported that if you take the four TPM's out of your wheels and keep them stored in the car, inside a vessel that is pressurized, you will have no more bother from them.

Such a silly idea, for silly people.

If cash is that tight you could buy winter tires and mount them on the same rims for your summer tires. Mounting and balancing will probably run around 100 bucks but after about 2 to 3 seasons you could of bought rims for the money spent mounting/balancing. A drawback to that though is runflats can be difficult to mount (from what I have heard).

Hmm thats a good idea, but someone just needs to come out with a cheap product that just disables the system or sends it a 33 psi signal on all four corners. I wonder if there is a method of recalibration as well. I guess they don't need to be that accurate, but seems stupid to have a sensor that cant be calibrated.

You might as well get used to TPMS along with DSC as they are both mandatory on all cars sold in the US starting in 09.
