well i have an 08 cooper s mostly base model. this is probably a stupid question but oh well. up until a few weeks ago when ever i pulled the seat forward to access the back the seat it would move right back to the position i had it. well i cleaned my car out a couple weeks ago. now when i access the back when i put the seat back it slides all the way to the rear most setting. so my question is what can i do so it remembers its original setting again? any help would be appreciated thanks.
If you tilt the seat forward and push the whole seat to the front, when you move the seat back into position move the seat first then push the back upright. It should remember the position it was in. If you push the back upright then move the seat back, it won't.
Hope that makes sense!
Slide the seat all the way forward. Get your face down by the back of the seat track. In one of the tracks you'll see a little shiny metal piece. Use a long screwdriver or dowel and push that as far forward as you can in the track.
thanks for the replies. ill try the screwdriver thing. ive already tried letting the seat slide back before put the seat upright but still no luck. so hopefully the screwdriver trick will work.
thanks
thank you for the help minidrvr. thats exactly what it was. it was a little shiny piece on the left side seat rail. i slid it forward then adjusted my seat. i then moved it forward again and when i slid it make it sropped right where it was supposd to.
thanks for the help guys
No problem. Mine seem to get out of sync like that every couple months. Also if I slide the seat to fast it blows right past the stop with hardly any resistance. Just enough you can feel it hit, but not enough to stop the seat.
My sister has a 2008 MINI Cooper S Coupe. Tonight the hand lever on the upper back portion of the driver seat, that lets the seat tilt forward and then the seat slide forward so that a passenger can climb into the back seat, seems to no longer work. The passenger side has a click or release that can be felt when the handle is lifted. The driver side seems to have no click or release. The cable pulls but it seems that it is not releasing the seat. Is there some connection under the seat or in the interior of the seat that might have broken? Since the seat back will not release and tilt forward, the seat bottom will only slide forward by using the bar on the front of the seat. Any suggestions?
I have seen this happened on mine a few times, what I've done is pull the hand lever then move the seat back and forward few times and it releases the seat, there is something wrong with it, but I'll address it when I take it for maintenance.

I know I'm doing a throwback here, but I really didn't want to create a new topic for this...I haven't been able to find *anyone* on the web who had exactly this problem. This topic seems REAL CLOSE to discussing my issue. Looking for some help to resolve a problem with the passenger seat on my R58.
My problem is with the seat travel along the rail. It moves all the way to the front, but only moves 1 5/8" back. I've looked for the "shiny metal piece" because it seems like the placement is the issue. I can't seem to see/find what is preventing the seat from moving all the way back. The day it happened I happened to move the seat forward, which I had done less than 20 times previously. I don't see anything broken. Posting pics for illustration.
