A little late in the game to be touting anything with the "SUV" moniker attached:

But I kinda like it...
Waiting for the flatbed, stakeside pickup Minis that I saw tootling around London in the sixties.

It's just a 4 door with 4wd (probably). That makes it an SUV? Are you gonna ford that stream, venture up that shale filled hill, tow that popup (can already do that) trailer on a camping trip? Seriously, a 4 door Mini would probably sell, and that's all it is.
I'm certain it will be a popular model in a lot of areas...it's kind of growing on me.
Lots of folks weren't too keen on the Clubman either - until they saw it in person or drove it. I suspect the same thing will happen with this model.

BTW, there's a plaid MINI running around Houston.
In '06 I was contacted by an employee at the Oxford plant for a hi-res version so that posters could be printed to hang around the plant...or so I was told.
They are putting a mini exterior stylings on an BMW X1 platform. This is tiny by SUV standards and is more like a clubman with better ground clearance. I agree thought that they have left the brand alone.
It does go against the concept, but I wonder how it will work compared to the clubman. I mean if its not much bigger and just has 4 doors people may go for it instead of the clubman or the other way around. It will have to be different enough to draw a group that wouldnt buy a clubman instead of stealing customers from itself. Guess we will have to wait and see.
I'll make a bet it includes a slightly heavier capacity for towing, too, which REALLY won't be bad for towing the "fun" cars to rallies, events, the track, etc.
If I had the extra moolah (and the hubby would quit yanking my chain about some schmuck like "we have too many cars already"), I'd go for it.

Not one I would get, the MINI SUV, I adore my MC.
I figure it has to be superior on mpg to SUVs and minivans and those muscle machines out there, so if it pushes those big gas guzzlers off the road, would be a good thing in the long run.
Perhaps lighning will strike, and the average American driver will stop thinking that big is safer on the roads, and buy the MINI SUV or its BMW cousin. Well, after said average American driver first checks himself or herself out of the burn unit of the local hospital.
And it does have the MINI look, albiet MINI on steriods.
