R56 Ugly!
Yes, the 73 (white one) got in trouble for breaking its radiator and got put in the corner until I have time to fix it.
Does anyone have the actual announcement from BMW? First of all, it is a concept that will be unveil. Second, I'm sure the announcement did not include a photo -- that's the whole point of unveiling at a car show, and all the photos being distributed are fabricated speculation.
We are counting the days until it arrives actually.
It's the 5th seatbelt.
The clubman has no 5th seatbelt in US version.
The 4 doors are also handy.
Basically, we're hoping for a CRV, but with better milage,
handling, features, safety, styling, etc, and a little smaller
than the current bloated CRV-thing.
It's not really meant to explore the arctic tundra or
pull a bobcat around town.......

I agree......they'd really have to extend the car to fit 4 doors and I think that MINI really wants to hold on to the 'small' image and many people argue that even the Clubman was pushing it in terms of size.
Based upon the photos posted, photoshopped or not, I've heard from a few vendors and dealers that it's designed to be a AWD, 4 door concept on the previously mentioned BMW 1 series platform. Smaller SAV ("Activity") design with a 2010 U.S. 1st qtr release date. Maybe I'm right or wrong?
Anyway, given the design and functionality of this new potential Crossman I'll probably have an order in about a yr from now. I think its a great idea

An SUV eh? I would think by now, with $4.00/gal gas, anyone with a brain would know better than to develop or market ANYTHING with the label "SUV". Frankly, I thought BMW execs were smarter than that.
I think if they have positive reactions with the prototypes they'll build the Crossman, and it'll probably sell well.
With four doors it will appeal to a lot more folks who would really like 4 doors so their kids can get in and out without having to do it through the front doors.
Having 2 little ones in car seats, it would be appealing to me for sure. Not sure how well it'll do with the mpg figures if it has awd, but probably still better than many of the cross-over vehicles out there.

Agreed
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I would like a 4 door AWD crossover much better, living in NE ohio and having a kid. I would also give up the power of the S for it. I like the looks a lot.
I like it!
That would let me have one for performance, and one for hauling the family and a lot of other things my mini is just to small for.
I'm thinking it would be AWD not 4WD. but then again, it wouldn't be built for hardcore wheeling!

It's not bad looking from what can I see in the picture, except for the black "thing" just in front of the door, and the door handle itself. At least they changed the front end, and more importantly, the grill. I think this one would be a winner.
Where are the 5 doors, though? I don't see more than 3, including the hatch.

Hmm... MINI is building themselves quite a family. The Cooper, Clubman, and now Crossman. I believe that this sort of Sport car, Estate, SUV is sort of expected in the market from all automakers. Look at VW they have the GTI, Jetta, and Tiguan with a few other cars in the mix but its just normal.
