R56 Ugly!

It needs to be lighter and get better gas mileage then the other comparable SUV/SAV's out there, and it will sell like crazy.
I know a lot of people out there love the way the Mini looks, but I always get the same comments, it's too small in the back, I have kids, it needs 4 doors.
The Clubman in IMHO doesn't address these issues, the extra few inches of leg room and the tiny suicide door (on one side) is just not enough for some.
The Crossman can be everyones car now, so much for our little niche car that was sort of exclusive. BMW's not stupid, they want to sell to the masses.
Now one good thing I can see out of this is the possibility of an AWD Cooper S.
AWD and about 250hp please, and that would be very cool, no more torque steer yeah!!!.

My guess this vehicle is not really intended for the true SUV market, it is intended for the snowbelt. I live in outside Boston and in my town, every home's 2nd car is Awd, including mine, a Honda Element. The typical buyer is not looking to off road - just to stay on the road when the snow hits. If this thing delivers 28-30MPG, it will take off. As a Clubman owner, I'm already comfortable with the basic shape. An AWD with only a 1 or 2 mpg penalty would have been a no-brainer for me. Besides, I would leave off all the rally stuff that clutters the look and it would likely be a twin to the Clubman - just a few inches taller and a few pounds heavier. But if you hate the look of the Clubman.......

I want that car (truck) whatever!
If this will be available soon, I'll buy one, depending on how I like my new S, ordered on May 31st. Frankly, living in the upper midwest, the SUV makes a whole lot more sense. I'd give up the turbo for an SUV that looks like this and gets 36 MPG highway.

I could tell a similar story as minicobra1 does. I had the same complaints about the back seat, etc. I just ordered a Clubman -- it does improve the back seat enough.
However, when my lease is up...I will look at the Crossman. Key thing, though, is keeping it Mini. To me, that means preserving the best combination of fun-to-drive and fuel economy ever on 4 wheels.

I would not recommed attaching the word "ugly" to any MINI based on the Photoshop renderings in the car mags which are all fake, or even the concept versions. Sure, if you have an opinion, fine, but we've seen this same premature tempest-in-a-teapot churned up with R56 and the Clubman and, in the end, things turned out fine. We all have our MINI of choice, but the designers have done pretty well thus far and I see no reason to jump to any conclusions simply due to media mis-direction. Same goes for photos, which I have grown very mistrustful of in that they tend to distort proportions in a subtle way I never imagined possible.
Don't get me wrong...I'll be watching all the spy pics and drawings, too, but unless I see a real red flag on a real car (which frankly I don't expect), I plan to give the design team some credit and leeway so I can at least understand the motivation for their design decisions. I believe, at this point, that those who find the Clubman aesthetically pleasing will have little trouble with the Crossman.

Did anyone read the article?
It's out on road tests, those aren't photoshops pics.
It will be AWD.
It will not be available unit 2010.
Current engines are planned for initial launch.
I think it's okay and needed to compliment the MINI line, and like said earlier, I would love to see the pick-up car/truck model available. I saw one recently in Germany and drooled, it was killer and the old man had the bed full. Wood interior and wood floor in the back.
