That's good thinking on your part
I did my headlight, tail light, and grill surrounds myself with the chili red paint that http://minspeed.net/index.php sells. They also have a black grill surround you could purchase. I did my beltline with 3M electrical tape. The rest of the stuff I will have vinyl styles do for me.

No you're not weird at all, in fact you're perfectly correct as far as I'm concerned also. Lyle's prices do seem a tad steep for what essentially amounts to a little plastic wrap. That said I'll probably end up ordering from them anyway because their work is good quality by all accounts and they're the only/best show in town as far as vinyl wraps are concerned.

My wife and I have wrapped a lot of the parts on both our MINIs since we already had the vinyl, and even did it for a few friends, but I would definitely recommend having Lyle do it. It's labor intensive and easy to mess up. The other option is to have them painted, but it's not reversable

I think for some items their prices are somewhat steep, but for things like the dash kit and emblems it's really reasonable.

I'm sure his work is quite excellent. I've seen only rave reviews.
I'm also concerned by the fact he only gives you 4 days from delivery to get the OEM part postmarked and in the mail back to him. If I receive the part on a Monday and can't get to the install the next week, I could incur a core return penalty...which could be very pricey.
Did you send your parts to him in advance or did you do the "core charge" thing?

Or, if you know you'll be out of town for a little while, remove your OEM pieces, ship them to him and see if you can't get the new ones back by the time you get back
