R56 General MCS Availability Question
General MCS Availability Question
Hello,
I am new to this site and I have a question to pose about getting a 07 or 08 MCS. We are looking at going to the Tacoma dealer this weekend to look at getting a car. We want to order one but have no idea of how long it takes. Prior to getting BS'd at the dealer can anyone provide us input on if there are waiting lists or how long it takes from time of order to delivery? It may also help to know we are in the Seattle area and the market may be different here than in other areas.
Thanks in advance and sorry if this has been covered (I searched but did not find anything).

Minimee,
I am hardly a veteran here at NAM, but let me be the first to welcome you here. Like all internet BBS, there are good and bad. I personally have found nothing but good here. The people are very friendly and very very helpful. Welcome to the cult.
Again, I'm no expert as I purchased my MINI off of the lot. They acutally had about 25 to choose from when I showed up at the dealership. I didn't get the thrill of ordering and the agony of waiting, but I did get a relatively stripped down vehicle that allows me to not pay twice for mods! The other problem is that you are limited with color, seats selection, and options.
If you are not in a hurry, go to your dealership and place an order. I do believe that there is some delivery delay right now. I've heard that orders placed now won't get here until Feb/march. That would tear my heart out having to wait that long. So, take your time and play with the MINI configurator and come up with your dream MINI! These are the most fabulous vehicle to drive and more fun to mod, so Good luck and welcome.

At Rasmussen in Portland, Oregon it takes about four months. I had one ordered, then some one esle cancelled after theirs came in and it was close enough to what I had ordered so I took it, so my wait was two months.
There is several dealers in California that have a good inventory, a friend of mine phoned around and found what he wanted and flew down and bought and had a mini vacation driving home. He also paid a couple thousand less than I did for the same car.

Maybe this will help.... I placed my order at EB Mini in Pleasanton, CA - 8/31 - There was a couple there picking up their PW MC'S - they were putting their luggage in - had to ask - where they came from... WA - then I ask why not just order there??? They said too much BS and it was to be a Longggggggggg wait (they said 8 months) and EB got them the Mini they wanted in 8 weeks and actually saved them some money - they made a Long weeked out of it... Do NOT pay over MSRP and don't wait more than 8/10 weeks..... If you do order an 08 = Be sure to ask how many people are in front of you and when can you get your production number - Very important questions and will give you information to base how long you will have to wait... there is still time to order a 07 but you have to hurry...
Do you have that in writting??? I wouldn't plan a party for 1/15 just yet...
Good luck buying in Tacoma. I bought mine in Long Beach, CA. Made a long weekend of it... I will never bother trying to deal with Tacoma again. I hope you have better luck.

Check with Rasmussen in Portland before you sign on the dotted line. The Fife dealer wanted too much mark up and quoted me a several month wait. I got mine within 2 months after ordering (Jan.'07-March'07). However, the wait may be much different now.
I ordered on March 26th and received it on July 10th. They sometimes get a car that no one has claimed and I had a chance to buy one but I passed because I didn't like the color. If your budget and option list are flexible then you might be in luck sooner than you expect.

My wait on the east coast is about 6 weeks. There are several dealerships on the east coast (some also advertise on NAM) that offer MINIs at MSRP plus $500 shipping to the west coast if you want to go that route.
I had a fair experience with NW MINI (the one near Tacoma), but I bought something off the lot back in March. When it comes to ordering, I've heard similar stories to those shared above -- i.e., long wait times quoted, some $ markup, etc. The guys at Rassmussen (sp?) were super helpful, but I went with NW MINI as they're the dealer that's closer to where I actually live.
Salt Lake City and Neillo in Sacramento have more than a few sitting around waiting for buyers.
