Depends on whether the older generation rims will accept the new larger bolts the R56 has and whether or not you have the new TPMS in your R56.

Bore sizes are the same 56.1mm. Only limiting factor for wheel fitment is brake size vs. wheel size:

Can all OEM wheels be fitted to either generation MINI?On July 12, 2006 the size of wheel bolts was changed from M12x1.5 to M14x1.25. There exists a misconception that this change in wheel bolt size precludes fitting early OEM wheels on later model cars. This is simply not true as all OEM wheels have holes large enough for either size wheel bolt.

Thank you miniconcarne .......Some Great Info here.
I wll be saving this thread for future reference

I just sold my old set of nice S-lites to a chap in a new Clubman. He was referred to me thru our SA. Afterwards I remembered something about the different sized bolts, but by then he had already left. I left him a message but have not heard back yet, so guess it all worked out. No news is good news !

If the only problem is the bolt diameter, TSW sells stud conversions that will convert the size from 14mm to 12mm and go from bolts to studs.

Yes here is pic of the R53's rims on my 08 R56. They are R84 X-lite 17.6lb (from Mini2.com), very close fit to the brake, just b careful w the balance weights, they may rub if too thick.

Hi, fairly new to Mini's here but is that an 08 MCS? The R-84 is the same wheel I would like to put on my 07 MCS for winter. I can deal with the wheel weight issue but I've received conflicting info on them working at all...
Thanks, in advance, for your indulgence with an old thread!

Mark

Yes.

I have a set of 16in X-Lites and a set of 17in S-Lites, both from the Mark 1 R53 series MINIs and they both fit my 10/07 build R56S. I have no issues with the bolts, holes, or the brakes calipers clearing. My MINI was built with the 17in Crown Spoke rims from the factory. Good luck!
