Transmission Noises!!!

My brand new 07 with 1500 miles on it is making a whining noise from the drive line. The noise is not RPM related, it gets louder and more high pitched the faster the car is going. It does not do it in neutral or when the clutch is pushed in. The noise is the loudest at very low engine load. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. I'm taking it to the dealership tomorrow, but if anyone else has come across the same thing I would love to know what is going on and what had to be done to fix it.

Well if the noise is unusually loud, its seems like it would be gear related. My transmission has never been as quite as what I am used to, but that doesn't mean something is wrong. I would be curious as to if it does it in every gear and then loudest in 6th.

It sounds like somthing the dealer will have to evaluate. It's not exactly like any of the "tranny noise" complaints posted here before... but there is a similarity: the harmonic whine off throttle (or under light load, as you said).

Counld be your clutch and/or the friction plates slipping a bit. The dealer has a "fix" if thats what they decide it is... don't know if you want to actually know what it entails, since it sounds pretty cheesy. basicly revving the car up and popping the clutch hard in 2nd gear a few times if I remember correctly. I think the theory is that they are basiclly taking some of the glazing (my term, not theirs) of the friction plates and seating the clutch correctly.

Mine did somthing similar early on. A couple of spirited drives and it went away.

Well, I took my baby to the dealership yesterday morning to see if they could hear the same thing that I am hearing. They were very kind and promptly took the car for a test drive. The technician did indeed hear what I was hearing and they kept it for the day to check it out. Yesterday evening they called me and to tell me that they were not sure what was causing the noise but they were certain that it was coming from the transmission. They have a brand new transmission on order and I should have my girl back Thursday or Friday.

I am disappointed that I got a car with a lemon of a transmission, but my dealership is taking care of it in the best way possible. My only issue is that while they have my car they did not offer to give me a loaner. Apparently when you get you BMW serviced you get one, but us poor souls with Mini's don't.

Sorry, I haven't been on for a while, but I have also had a transmission problem, long thread on here somewhere with details. My transmission, clutch and flywheel (the later two from different prob.) have been replaced on mine. MINI must be figuring something out, cause it took me over a month to get to where you got in just a couple days with your dealer. Good luck! It'll be fine once replaced!

make sure...

Make sure they replace the throw out bearing as that is what it sounds like the problem may be.

That's dealer specific. Mine does. Did you get your car there? You might press the point if it's a problem.

Yes, I bought my car from the same dealership about a month ago. I do have alternative vehicle, but it is still an inconvenience.

My R56 has 78,000 miles and I've just noticed this same noise. It's a very high-pitched whine, which goes away when the clutch is disengaged (clutch pedal in or in neutral).
