R56 Pre-delivery checklist for the dealership
Pre-delivery checklist for the dealership
Although I am far from taking delivery, I have been thinking about the things I should mention to my dealership before taking delivery. Here is my list so far:
1. No test drives for other potential customers in my car.
2. No license plate hole drills on the front bumper.
3. No dealership logos on the paint. (Otherwise, $50 a month for the advertisement!)
4. Program daytime running lights to be off.
5. Program doors to auto-lock after the car reaches a certain speed.
6. Make sure the weather seals on the door bottoms are not missing.
7. No dressing on the tires. That black tire dressing stuff eventually gets thrown onto the body panels and I hate that. I don't care if the tires do not look dark enough without the dressing.
Did I miss anything important?
Also, are there any other programmable options I should know about?

Per #1, my understanding, unless you have a very shady dealership, is that if the car is sold or spoken for, they won't let anyone test drive it. My car had 7 miles on it when I picked it up, and all has been good.
So you mean that we dont ever have to go to the dealership to program things like door locking, signal blinks, etc... ?

It is nice to know that I will be able to program these features myself. What with them tracking how fast you go and other things, it was starting to feel a little big-brother. I can't wait to get my hands on my Mini and twiddle the *****!

Check for uneven paint around windshield wahser valves and streak of bubbles underneath the paint running towards the bonnet stripes.

I took delivery of my MCSa last week, and the only issue I had was the bottom door seals were missing, as have been noted by some others on here. The dealer did not know about that issue until I told them about it and it was quickly resolved and the car is in as perfect a condition that you could ask for. They have been great.
I also was able to program everything the way I wanted it, in my case I wanted the daytime running lights on, the door locks a certain way, etc. The dealer also helped with this when I was having some issues with it. But the car is programmable on your own. Now I understand it better.
In fact, the dealer (Braman in Miami) spent almost the whole day with me, being very patient as I checked everything out on the car and they also went through everything with me.
Getting a Mini for the first time, especially if you have not bought a new car for a long time, like me, is a an education in technology.
But, I love this car! And I can't say enough good things about the dealer as well. I was a bit skeptical, but it turned out great.

VEHICLE MEMORY How the system functions
No doubt you have often reflected on how great it would be if you could configure your vehicle's various adjustment settings to meet your own personal requirements.
In developing this vehicle, the manufacturer of the MINI has incorporated a number of options which can be programmed specifically for your vehicle.
What the system can do
Your MINI Dealer can provide you with details on the capabilities of the Vehicle Memory system.
Examples for Vehicle Memory:
>Automatic locking if none of the vehicle doors are opened, refer to page 26
>Automatic locking after starting to drive, refer to page 28
>Selective central locking system, refer to pages 26, 27
>Convenience operation, refer to pages 26, 27
>Pathway lighting, refer to page 60
>Daytime running lamps, refer to page 61
>Speed-dependent windshield wipers, refer to page 63
>Setting units for outside temperature and fuel consumption display, refer to page 70
>Setting units for display of temperatures specified for automatic climate control system, refer to page 84
>Volume control PDC, refer to page 78
>Acoustic alarm for starting PDC activation, refer to page 78.
After memory functions have been reconfigured, your vehicle may operate
slightly differently from the descriptions used in this Owner's Manual. If you
decide to sell your vehicle one day, please remember to have the memory functions reset to their default configuration

thats because the convertible is still based off the old model cooper. the 09 will be like the current hard top.
Forgot to mention--program your keys alike, or they won't do the same things. Of course, if one driver LIKES them to have different functions, that's fine--just remember whose key does what.
