Why do the lights move up and down...

..when you turn on the car? It's cute as all hell but is there some functional aspect that escapes me? Are they automatically adjustable?

It's european law that all HIDs have to be self leveling. So that under a heavy load, your car isn't blinding oncoming traffic. Something like that.

Yes, they are self adjusting to level. If you watch real close you can see them re-level as you drive.
I get a kick out of it. Wind the gears out under hard throttle at night and you will see them do their thing.

no prob...just that this is the first car we've bought that has so many cool features. the last new car we got was the 04 GTO.

I'd agree, but it's taken a while for car manufacturers to adopt them - my 99 Bimmer has them, so the novelty's long gone for me.

These are the reasons I love the Mini.....for a small car, it's got a lot of cool and premium features. When the sales guy was doing the run-through at delivery, the various bells and whistles of the Mini really impressed me.

The BMWs though, when you start the lights, level one headlamp at a time, like it's winking, which seems cute enough to be a feature that would delight many a MINI owner.

hmmm...for some reason, i cant tell it moves. Is it obvious to see it move up and down? When i turn on my lights, all i see is the blue fades to white, i should stand in front of the car and have someone turn on the lights and check huh?

It's probably because I haven't had my third cup of tea yet, but I swear that read '...but my 8 year-old's Audi does the same thing'.

And then I'm sitting there trying to figure out what your kid's doing with an Audi...
