I searched for this topic and all i came across was posts from the 2005 model mcs. This is relavent to left foot braking for the R56. For any of you left foot brakers (or anyone that knows about this), I have a question for you. I have heard from motorists that the '07 is not for left-foot brakers. It'll cut boost if there's too much brake and throttle input at the same time. Although the non-S doesn't have this issue. Is there any justification for this statement? Any answers or expericence on this issue?

If this is true, is there a solution to the problem? For instance a switch, button, or splicing wires etc.?

 

I think that's how most modern turbo cars operate now. What you are refering to is boost braking (when lauching the car, hold the brake down and press the accelerator to build some boost, then let go of brake and you are off!). In your case, you are already moving and the only reason you would want to hit the gas and brakes at the same time would be during cornering to stabalize the car, in which case both the throttle and braking inputs should be very mild (you shouldn't gun the engine while pressing on the brakes as hard as you can). Of course, before even entering the corner you should already be braking hard and off the gas (no boost), so this whole processes doesn't require the boost what so ever. Basically, unless you are trying to launch your car from a dead stop, this shouldn't be a problem, leftfoot braker or not.

 

Im not talking about launching. Im refering to when you are making a turn on a track or autox. I autox/track with my WRX (has a turbo) and havent had problems with this issue and performing this manuevor correctly is not troubling. When talking with people that I autox with, this issue was brought up b/c an individual has driven a 07 mcs many times and has ran across this problem (this driver is experienced so i just assume that he is doing it the right way). Just something that i was interested in finding more info about.

I didn't even notice your screen name, I drive a wrx(sti) too ::wave::. But anyways, as i said earlier, accelerator input during a turn should be very minimal, so having boost or not doesn't matter. However, if you are coming out of the turn then yes, having boost would be great. The boost lag coming out of a turn is just a inherent problem in turbo cars since you can't really hold the gas down while turning to keep the boost up. you can't really use left foot braking with full throttle during a turn.

 

hey subie family...wave back...i know what turbo lag is (had a 03 wrx and now a 05 wrx & do all work on my cars) and i dont think that is what he is talking about (after going back and reading my first comment i can see where that is apparent). I havent yet had the privelage of getting behind the wheel in a mcs yet (doing research first) but he wasnt talking about lag, it was something about a mechanism (asc). Go figure, maybe he was talking gibberish lol. I was just testing the water for people's .02.

 

He may be experiencing nothing more than the dreaded traction control coming on. All tho if he really gets on the brakes while trying to keep the throttle planted, the car will stop accelerating. This doesn't negate the use of left-foot braking, it only means that you have to be smooth with both inputs. This is true for all MINI's.

In the R56 MCS, if traction control is ON, and you step on the brakes and the throttle at the same time, the ECU will cut power drastically. It doesn't do it if traction control is switched off.
