What purpose is the orange pull tab on the PCV cover

It's always been on my valve cover, and I just replaced the pcv membrane because it was loose and leaking oil. Well, the new one flew off on the interstate! So luckily I have the old one from the old valve cover on there, but that one is torn and leaking too. So what's the pull tab for? I have it out now.

Should be another thread somewhere in this forum if you do a search.

The orange pull tab gets replaced with a black plastic tab insert once removed and have read it gets blown out once the pressure is too high in the valve cover, but not too sure how accurate this info is.

I found 1 thread on a different model saying to remove it, nothing else. hardly answers anything for me and I have no black tab insert anywhere.

Sorry, what engine is it?

As I automatically assumed it would be the N14 when you mentioned the orange pull tab.
