R55 Slight Hesitation
My Clubman also has a slight hesitation in the higher gears. For the most part I believe it to be turbo lag. I believe the gas pedal is also part to blame because it is sometimes slow to respond. Thought about getting a Sprint Booster to solve that. I've owned 2 turbo Minis and they have all driven very similar. If your problem worsens and have higher mileage you might want consider having the fuel system cleaned. This could be the signs of carbon build up. Good luck.
Thanks for the reply. It doesn't feel like turbo lag. I've had lots of turbo'd cars and I've felt turbo lag. This is more like hit the gas... hmmm.... let's think about this for a second or two and then it gradually accepts that I'm not taking my foot off the gas. Turbo lag to me has always felt like "Woooooosh! Okay, let's go!"
My car is right at 50k, so not high mileage at all.

Have you kept up with the basic maintenance needs? Spark plugs, fluid changes, filters, etc? Dong a cleaning, as suggested above, may be a good idea as well.

Unfortunately, with these direct injection motors the Italian tune up method is not enough. You're at the mileage for an intake valve cleaning anyway, so it's not a bad idea to get one. Make sure it's of the walnut blasting variety. They seem to run from $350 to around $600 depending upon location.

So, I initially starting having this hesitation at around 48,000 miles. At my last oil change the service tech mentioned new spark plugs at around 55-60k. I decided to order the parts and just do them myself (saving a shop hour of labor). I finally got around to it last night at 51,000 miles. It totally cleared any hesitation. The car feels brand new again. No seafoam or walnut blasting needed (knock on wood), yet. W00T!!!!
I bought OE from ECS Tuning. They came gapped - I checked them. The Service Writer said they've seen blown engines using non-oem plugs. I laughed, but still... it's not worth testing my warranty.

I can always think of a ton. But, my wallet decides it's better not to. Though I do need some basic stuff. I'll have to set up another basket.
