R55 Help!! Service Engine Soon Light + Transmission Jerk
Help!! Service Engine Soon Light + Transmission Jerk
Hey all,
I just had the water pump and thermostat replaced after it failed on me at 49k miles. Sadly, I had to drive it for about six miles in LA traffic to get home with the coolant warning on.
Now that the car has just come back from the shop, the Service Engine Soon light is on solid yellow (indicates reduced power) and when the car shifts above 3k, there is a cut in power and a big jerking feel.
I exclusively use the steptronic paddles and have found that if I roll off the gas, letting the revs fall below 2.5k, shift, and then hop back on it the jerk disappears.
This is a brand-new problem that only started occurring after I got the car back.
Anyone have any ideas or thoughts??

Sounds like the Service Engine Light was actually a Check Engine Light. Since you just had it worked on, I'd take it back to them (towed). When a car is overheating, I'd pull over as soon as possible. Lots of bad things can happen in an overheated car.
Thanks for the reply. These cars usually run around 103-108C when hot and the warning comes on at around 112. Never got up that high for any prolonged period.
Any ideas on the trans lurch/cut in power?

I think I have a similar issue sometimes. It usually happens to me a few minutes after I start it up and stop at a light/sign. I won't hijack your thread but I'm interested to see what you are able to determine.
This may be "off-the-wall" but the transmission can jerk if you have a wheel speed sensor going bad. Although you'll usually get and ABS fault warning as well. My front wheel speed sensors were causing glitches and minor but irritating jerks in the shifting of my 2010 MCS auto trans. After I replaced both, no more problem. I never had any actual power loss though.
Go get your codes pulled. I did this morning and I had p115c and p115d. The problem was the hose on right side inter-cooler had come loose. I put it back on tightened the clamp and problem solved.
