Here's another resource, not quite as detailed as the previous. This one is on the R56. Don't know much about the 2nd Gen if R56 translates to R55 when it comes to the mechanics involved. The pictures are on post #1 thru 4.
BTW, the NAM search engine works really good.

On an S model you will need to move the coolant expansion tank out of the way. It is only held in place by a single bolt on top. Main thing is to be easy moving it around so you do not loosen the tube connection on the bottom.

I'd recommend after removing the oil pan plug, remove the fill cap, crack open the oil filter housing and then let everything sit for 15-20 minutes so it can drain. This will help avoid spills when you finally do pull the oil filter housing off.

Didn't realize the how-to's for the N14s were just posts instead of documents or videos. May have to catch a video if I ever get my pair of Google Glass. Maybe some images as well and put together a PDF. Unfortunately, I'm still around 7,000 miles away from my next oil change, so it will be later this summer before I change again.

Did my first one on the Mini today. Very standard. Just need to move the coolant tank. 30 min all in.

One question, why would my old filter's ribs be bent?

Probably from a ham handed MINI oil filter installation engineer and a lousy judge of good beer.

That's Glendale, CA, skipper. They're mostly judges of fine wine around there or at least they like to act like it.
