Are CPOs oil changed before putting up for sale

Got a Mini CPO recently. When asked when the last oil change was done (due to carfax not showing done recently), the sales rep said all CPO cars would have gotten an oil changed prior to putting them up for sale.

Question, is what he said true? And if so, are carfax reports static? meaning the online carfax report is only accurate to the date of the report purchase?

Thanks

We bought a CPO Clubman and not know about the way services are done on Mini's were suprise when 3 month later it was due for an oil change service. I thing the CPO are just brought to the current service levl as specified by the computer In other workd if it is not due, it won't be done.

Carfax shows last oil change done was at 17k miles. This is a 33k miles CPO.

Sales rep said the performed maintenance record is also logged in the key. True?

Yes, any service done by a Mini dealer will be stored in the key..

Carfax is useless. I bought a used CM that was in theory ready to go, MA immediately pointed out that the front tires were toast and they changed them out. So much for dealer pre inspection procedures. You need oil change asap.

A) just because it's certified doesn't mean it needs or gets to get a service out of sequence
B) if it's certified the dealer needs to make sure that all the needed oil services have been completed
C) the example above of a CPO car needed in an oil service in 3 months is unfortunate but true. It simply wasn't due yet.
D) yes the key read will tell if services due and get you a page where you can see what was done when and where. But that is a dealer level only record. You can ask for it

The most important thing is too make sure prior owner brought it in and didn't treat it like a rental car.

After I finished with Sales, I just walked over to Service and had a talk with a nice guy there. He said exactly what you said, "if needed, it would be performed. But CPO does not mean a mandatory oil change"

He then asked me for the papers I just signed and looked up the dealer record and showed me that the oil was indeed changed at 33k miles.

During my inspection prior to taking delivery, I pull the dipstick out and put a few drops on my palm and it was the good light brown color.

I feel confident that the oil is good (confirmed by the Service guy and myself, I don't count the Salesman's). Going to let the reminder tell me when to do the next oil change.

Thanks everyone!

It's not part of the CPO process unless the counter says it is due. But I do know some dealers have their own used car process that each car gets an oil change even if it's not a MINI so it will be dealer dependent, but not CPO dependent.

Have the key read and see what has been done and what is due.

But sounds like you already have it, congrats.

Post up some pics.

Ran through the Service/Info log through the onboard system. It was interesting to see my next oil change is due in 19,000 miles. Ha.
