Making the Alarm Light Blink without an Alarm

Has anyone figured out how to wire the red blinking alarm light above the tach to go on? I don't have the alarm feature (I hear it's overpriced and useless) but I want to be able to turn the alarm light on when the car is parked.

More importantly, I don't want anyone to think my car is not armed because the alarm light is not on.

Should be a simple split to the power and a toggle switch. If any one has done this properly, please share details with photos.

Thanks.

It's programmable via NCS Expert (at least my '08 is). Just search. There are threads in the Electrical section on this very question.

I like this "program" method you're describing. It would be great to make it the "heartbeat blinking feature to work. How hard is it to do? What software and parts are needed? DIY level?

I wonder if I can have the dealer activate this feature?

It is not "hard," just time-consuming. You just need a laptop and a cable capable of communicating with the car's modules. And no, dealers won't program it. Again, search. No need to repeat ALL the information on this topic; there's a lot.

What year is your MINI? There is a thread on NAM that indicates the 2012 (maybe 2011 as well?) are not wired for the alarm LED. So you would have to take a different route than NCS Expert. I was dissapointed to hear that but oh well.

My last car had a fake alarm LED on the dash that was connected in a way to flash when the ignition was off. It was super easy and just a matter of finding the right fuses to tap into.

You know I am going to catch hell for this comment, but I agree with BBoshart completely. This is not be pick on this particularly requester, But as I read thru these threads, I would guesstimate that at least 50% and maybe more have been covered if you just would use the search button. I am guilty of it myself, but trying to change. The search feature is a great feature and more people should use it.

Just my .02$

Noted. Mine is a 2009 JCW Clubman, so I think I'm in luck for "prewire." My MINI SA is actually trying to see if he can convince one of their techs to do this for me at the dealership. I'm looking to get the "heartbeat" factory alarm effect. Thanks the everyone for all the tips. Will search properly and move discussion over to the right place.

The car might not be prewired for the alarm sensors, but the LED's are in every tach. They are soldered onto the circuit board.
