I am new to the forum and I am looking for some help. I have had my clubman since 9/2008 and I currently have 43,xxx miles on it. As of 30,xxx miles I have had series of check engine lights that indicate vamos issues . I have taken it to the dealer 5 times and I am returning for the 6th time on Thursday.
Has anyone else had this many issues with the vamos system?
I love the car but I've just about had it with this one.
Thank you for the definition.
If 91 is the wrong gas then I'm screwed. lol
Whatever the system is called its throwing off a fault code and rendering the car into safety mode. It's a big pain in the ***.
Thank you for the tip to call mini usa. I did and they have decided to escalate the issue to the engineers at mini. I will keep everyone posted as they find the solution because this is a big pain in the a..
Our 2008 Cooper O2B had VANOS issues. Dealer had to keep 'Moomin' for a couple days while parts were being shipped in. They gave us a loaner and flatbedded our MINI to us when it was finally fixed.
VANOS seems to relate to BMW's variable valve timing. Found several BMWs reporting problems with it.
Do you have a Cooper or S? The S engine didn't get VANOS until the refreshed version (already in Europe, and starting in the US with 2011 model year).
The N14 engine has had intake side VANOS since it was released. You are thinking about the dual VANOS (intake and exhaust) on the refreshed engine.
To the OP, the replacement of the intake VANOS unit, what you are calling the sprocket, is really not that big of a deal. There is also a solenoid unit that controls the VANOS unit, seems like that might also be the cause of a fault.
Got the car back after the repair and the check engine light came on in 15 minutes. They did replace the solenoid a few months back.
The tech drove the car 50 miles with no issues and then I get the car back and check engine light.
I weigh 215 maybe thats sets off the light .lol
Ours had a VANOS issue and it turned out to be the actuator (the little thing on the end of the cylinder head that effects the changes to the cam timing. Our dealer replaced that part and we found that the engine was immediately much improved. They had to dig a lot to find this issue, and it took a bit to get the part, but in the end, it was a major improvement in the car's overall drivability.
Vanos, timing chain tentioner, aux pump replacement!
I have a 09 clubman s with 67,000 miles. My tentioner decided to back out of the head and blow oil out. In return it caused enough slack in the timing chain that shelled the chain rail, took out a crank seal and valve cover gasket. After they fixed it all my Vanos failed while still at the shop. They replaced it asap a long with a thermostat/housing. They put me in a 2016 bmw 320i xdrive for a loaner. After everything was finished my clubman runs like a new car. I've done a few simple delete mods and now it runs even stronger than when I first bought it. I live in Oklahoma and I can say first hand that Jackie Cooper BMW/MINI has to be the absolute best shop I've had work done at and they have been nothing but friendly and very helpful in factory recall issues!!! Just picked it up today and put 200 miles on it with put any problems! If anyone has vanos issues and your in my area, you might give them a call!!!
Wife's 2011 Clubman base has had a VANOS in the past change solenoids around every thing has been until yesterday Light out warning came on so I use lthe BMWhat app to see which one and it also came up with this
"VANOS intake/high pressure injection valve low side 12/ VANOS Soleniod valve inlet/inlet: Stellar movement, VANOS )287D Lately it has been running kid of funny at low speed it was to stumble or bog down when trying to accelerate from a stop or going slow and trying to speed up. Once it up to 20+ mph or so you don't notice it.
She is going next tuesday for a Service Lite that turned red in November, just some kind of drivability check as far as I could find out. We were down to one car, the mini for awhile when mine decided to bust the radiator ($700 for the Radiator) so it was not take in. All the lite ever said was Srvice 11-2015 in yellow and then turned to Red in December. 44K on it but has the extended CPO Warranty and Service contract so we should be ok.

2nd that....I needed a LR quarter panel ( Rust thru on tail area ) and all of them were in Germany. I purchased it with my CC'rd, they shipped it very fast and arrived to my MINI dealer with no dings or scratches. They were awesome to deal with.
Took the Clubman into to dealer for a Inspection as indicated on the dash reminder that service was due. Also told them about VANOS issue indicated by Carley App the hadn't turned on light. 44K on car, 2nd time for this issue this time they replace the VANOS solenoid under CPO warranty. The was an immediate improvement in low speed performance and overall driveability. The fixed the tail light issue and did the inspection so all is good right now. Had I not had the CPO warranty it would have been $220 parts and $100 labor to fix the VANOS issue. Thankfully I had the Carley BMW app as the issue hadn't turned the trouble light.
