Clubman Reverse Lights

I don't have a rear fog light in my '09 Clubman. I assume I still have just one reverse light? If there a solution out there to get more light?

I was backing out of my garage last light and I couldn't see anything.

- add a light?
- change the bulb?
- wire up the other light?
- duct tape a Mag Light to the roof?

Thanks.

What you can do is order the UK drivers side rear light assembly and that will have the white backup light space. The fog light has to be on the opposite side from the curb. I am not sure if the bulb socket is the same for both bulbs but you should be able to get one to anyway so that you do not need to cut the socket off the fog light wires.

I doubt your local dealer will be able to get it for you as they can not get parts for foreign models but you could contact a dealer in the UK and have it sent over.

I'd like to do this too (making symmetrical reverse lights). I didn't realize the UK lights were reversed like that. It would probably take some wiring work, but I'm sure it can be done.

just tap off of the original light and run the wires to the other side and there you have it done. But only if you have a clear lens on the ohter side.

Has anybody created a kit for this yet? I have a 2009 Clubman (USA), no fog light, and would like to have two backup (reverse) lights. Somebody -- make it simple for us!

Has anyone checked to see if there is just a wire sitting idly on the other side rather than running a wire across the width of the car?

Knowing MINI they probably have the car wired for both the euro and american versions which would mean you just find the correct wire and plug it into the harness.

Just a hypothesis.

Unfortunately the wiring harness for the left hand and right hand drive cars is different. At least on my April 08 build that is.

The Owner's Manual says the bulb is P21W, which should be equivalent to 1156.

I put a PIAA replacement bulb in the backup light socket of my 2009 MCCS, and it is definitely brighter than the standard bulb.

The wiring for both taillights run to the footwell module (at the drivers footwell). I think you can probably do a straight swap with a left side UK taillight (use the existing connector and wiring). Then take advantage of the rear fog wiring but jumper it to the backup signal, up at the footwell module. In that way, you only add a short jumper wire and avoid running a new wire across the width of the car.

The PIAA bulb for the backup light is 1156. They come as a set of two.

Sounds confusing tho LOL.

I may need some help with this once I track down that UK tail light.

@Lagston - Looks great!

It's hard to tell from the photo (if they are on or not), but are both reverse lights wired up? If so, did you use the jumper, or wire it across the back.

I'm considering upgrading to the new LED tail lights for the 11 Clubmans and figure that might be a perfect time to do the dual reverse lights as well.

How hard was it to get the UK left tail light?

Thanks!
We wired it across to the other reverse light.

The tail light was easy to get. We ordered it from coolministuff.com
Around $130 USD if I recall.

Are you sure it was from Coolministuff.com? Just visited their site and do not see any mention of a taillight or other mini parts for that matter.

I'd bet that he meant www.newministuff.com rather than 'cool'

Great work Lyle.

Aaahh, yup thats it.

@mini-mon - We don't have dates set for a SoCal trip yet. We will be fairly busy these next few months; Europe, New York, AMVIV, Chicago....
SoCal may be June.
