Lowered Clubman

Anyone lowered their Clubman via springs only yet? If so, what brand of springs did you use, how low did you go and are there any issues as of yet?

Last I heard was there needed more testing on the Clubman if lowered-by-springs-only was used. Any updates? I don't feel like tossing over a grand just to get rid of wheel gap. And if I do end up spending more than a grand, I'd rather do it right.

well there a few different springs out there, but unless you are going to pay for someone to do it, the springs themselves are only about $250... I lowered mine with coilovers and they BLOW the stock suspension out of the water (I had the sport suspension).

If they're testing them it's probably just to see if the clubman needs a different rear spring rate to make up for the added weight and wheel base. You'll be fine using any R56 spring set up. Many clubman owners have been running various r56 spring sets.

Rally

Wow...that's nice...

Are you running an exhaust, CAI, or an ECU in your clubman?

No, no engine mods, yet. It's not an S so there really isn't much available still.

Rally, would I have to worry about bad struts after 30-40k miles if only lowering springs are used though? I know I CAN use the R56 kits but I don't want a premature strut failure. Spoke to a few places and all of them say that blown out struts because of lowered Mini at 40k is part of the joy of owning a Mini-er not for me. :P

Plus, cost to replace the worn out struts would equate to coilovers anyways.(struts + springs = coilover)-costwise

Although I can't attest to the mileage that they would blow-out at.....yes, lowering springs on stock struts can cause damage or premature failure. They are not meant to be driven at a lowered ride height. It's not something that is immediate obviously, but they do wear quicker.

That's why coilovers really aren't THAT expensive in the long run

Eibach makes some springs specifically designed for the Clubman - don't lower it dramatically but drop it about an inch and make a big difference to the handling. I have them on my Clubbie in the UK and I assume they can be sourced in th U.S.

Beastmaster- there's a few Clubman specific springs but they still tend to wear out your struts prematurely. I think I'll just have to save a tad longer to go the coilover route.
