Exhaust Emissions Warning Light???

Hi:

Just when I thought I wouldn't see a warning light for a while...
Driving home, slowed to 20 for a school zone and then a warning light and that dreaful sound that comes with it came on. Says something about EXHAUST EMISSION VALUES???
So I look in the owner's manual and it says on pg 175 exhaust emmission values have turned poor?

I checked the gas cap, it was tight. Any experience with this?

Thanks!

Hopefully, it's nothing but a glitch in the emissions sensor. Something happened like that with me once with my MC, and it only needed a quick cleaning or something strange like that.

How about calling your Service Advisor?

Hi:

Called my Service Advisor, he told me that if there was something really wrong the car would go into "limp mode" and if it drives well, probably no problem and the light will go away.

Just took it out on 95 was able to drive with speed at no problem, so guess I will wait and see?

Hmm. Have you searched the forums? If it doesn't "go away" by your next drive...well, I'd guess I'd want to know why it came on. If my memory serves me correctly and if your issue is the same as mine - I think I actually had to have mine replaced because it was faulty...but this is my recovered memory from several years ago.

Autozone will read a code for you for free. Have them read it but not clear it, you'll want the code in history for the dealer to see.
OBD systems are fairly rubust nowadays - chances are slim it's a "computer glitch." It has probably detected something amiss with your car. That something, however, may be an evap small leak that you don't really car so much about and won't affect how it drives. Which is why I advise the Autozone/Murray's/friend with a scan tool route.
Of course, with a car under warranty I always have it fixed at the dealer at my convenience.

I have had my check engine light come on twice. The warning was increased emissions!

the first time I checked the gas cap, light went off 2 days later on way to dealer. They checked it anyway and something was loose with the air intake.

the second time, it was not the gas cap, light has stayed on and there has been a decrease in performance and sometimes a buck during normal driving. There is also an increase in fan noise on the right side of the car. The SA said that a tube in the vent system had fallen off for the repair that was made.

She (SA) has requested a test drive with me when I pick up the car today to make sure the fan noise is gone and that the problem is solved.

I am at 1600 miles so hopefully I wont be back to the dealer for sometime after today.

Our MA and the manual both said the most common cause of that particular CEL is having not gotten the fuel filler cap on tight. Open it, turn it until it clicks and see if the CEL comes back.

My MINI's emissions light came on last night -- in the snow storm -- on 95 in ME. My difference being that the car must have gone into "limp mode," because I had no power. Stepped on the gas, and nothing happened. I checked the gas cap since I had just gassed up. No change. Fortunately, the ambient temperature was a balmy 12ºF and AAA showed up in just a shade under 1 1/2 hours to tow me out of there. I'm awaiting a call back from my MINI dealership to address the problem, which is conveniently located 72.6 miles away.
