R55 Window prob?
Window prob?
Ok so we just picked up the Clubman , love it! Some thing happen today when my wife got in the car, the window did not dip(drops 1/4in. when door is opened) like it had for the past week? I have been searching the forum for an hour and found a ton on the wont stay up bit, but nothing on my issue? I have tried the window reset trick but no go. When I shut the door I can hear and see it push up, but it is only 2mm or so. When I open the door it does not make the noise that it did before (no movement down). The passenger side works as normal. Any help?
Did you remember to hold both switches at the same time in the up position when reseting the windows? I had to get my driver's side window motor replaced and it was a very painless thing to do. They even gave me a John Cooper Works mini as a loaner for a few days while they repaired my motor in the new Clubbie. That was hard to give back the JCW! They had to order the motor from Oxford so it took a bit of time before they actually fixed it.

I have been having the exact same problem with my Clubman S (now at 4700 miles) - driver side is fine, passenger side barely drops at all on opening, if at all - just like you said, maybe 1-2 mm.
Also, that same window has been experiencing the auto-up / down issue, and sometimes it will reverse after going to the top and come back part-way down.
I tried three different reset suggestions from other threads, and that seems to have done the trick for the up-down issue (so far), but it didn't fix the no-drop-on-opening problem.
Dealer seems to think it can be fixed with a software reset - he gets the car tomorrow and we'll see

Unfortunately, they have to exhaust all of the more cost effective alternatives such as software resets, etc., however, in the end, they will replace the motor if needed. It is unfortunate that you live so far from the MA, but on the other hand, they always give you a mini loaner right? At least mine does.

the Clubbie went into the Dealer (Long Beach Mini) this morning for an early unscheduled first oil change at 4700 miles (I paid), a wheel liner trim cut too short, black windshield pillar molding that would not stay in place, and the window issues I mentioned in the previous post.
Everything was handled and they were done by mid-day.
Whatever they did for the window issues, it seemed to work....so far. Now, I notice that both windows have changed - the driver window was dropping about 1/2 inch before and the passenger window almost nothing, and now they're about equal at around 1/4 inch drop. No sign of the auto-up / down problem but that was intermittent and, who knows if it ever comes back.
They said they "re-initialized" them. The work order says "lost initialization, initialized with GT1 short test, no related codes, performed service functions, reinitialized windows with GT1".....whatever that means
Of course, no charge and I got a loaner (PT Cruiser) for the day
Hope that helps

My driver's window doesn't go up when the button is tapped, but the passenger side does. I tried holding the button in the up position for 30 seconds but that didn't change anything. Any other suggestions other than taking it to the dealer?
Robertshill, my Clubbie has the EXACT window problem as yours, plus the drivers side window will ROLL DOWN half way, once it's up.
It's at the dealer for a re-brainwashing.
The service dude tells me that each window has to be reset separately by the delaer. Party!
They're also going to lube up the club door wires because it sticks.

Got my Clubman back after a week.
The window rolls up/down, has pinch protection and drops 1/4 inch when opening...like it should.
The club door guts are backordered.
I got a new headlight out of the deal...the inside unit of the headlight was broken.
I was told, "The window programming changed this month(bs?) and some Minis/Clubman are coming in with the same issue of windows "rolling halfway down. The dealer is reprogramming as they come in."
The dealer said they reprogrammed my window and used the toggle to reinitialize the window after that.
I had the service manager SHOW ME how to reinitialize.
1) Roll window all the way down.
2) Hold the window switch down 5 seconds.
3) Roll the window all the way up.
4) Hold thw window switch up 5 seconds.

My '08 is at the dealer for the third time this week because of this same window problem. (driver's side)
Everything was fine since I got the car in April. The window would drop a little when opening the door then seal up when closing. Just recently, the temp here got into the teens and stayed for awhile. Since then, I noticed when the window dropped when opening my door, it made a cracking sound like it was frozen. (that same sound when you try to roll your window down in freezing temps) A day later, it stopped dropping and then if I rolled the window down and then back up, it would hit the top and then roll back down on its own. I also got the window warning light on my dash. I brought it in and they re-programed it while I waited. It was fine for a day and a half and then it did it again. I brought it in again, got a loaner and they held onto it overnight to make sure it was fixed. They said MINI gave them a new program for the car because there has been a lot of people complaining about the same thing. So they re-programed with this "updated" program from MINI......and then it happened AGAIN 2 days later!!!! I was able to rush it in Friday night before close. My advisor felt terrible and hooked me up with a pimp-*** BMW. He said they are going to do some diagnostic tests since the programming is obviously not working. They have contacted MINI to get to the bottom of this. I think I'm going to be without it for a few days but at least I have a nice ride in the meantime!!
I just researched this issue on here now, so I did not know you can do the reset thing yourself. If I had known, I would have tried it this week.
As for this window issue, I haven't had any other problems in my first 7500 miles (knock on wood!) and I'm trying to be patient with this. My advisor told me that there was another customer who came in the same day who had the same problems as me, as well as two other customers with different window problems. Apparently, all their windows, including their sunroof, would open when they turned off their car. Unfortunately, these two people didn't realize this when they left their car for the night and woke up to a rain soaked MINI the next morning!!!
(although, how you don't notice your windows AND sunroof opening is beyond me) This is obviously some glitch that MINI needs to figure out. I'm convinced it has to do with the cold weather (the dealer doesn't seem to think so but I;d bet on it) so I'm really hoping this isn't something I'm going to have to deal with 3-4 months every year!!!

I haven't noticed the window issue... but have simular thing to what some describe happing on the sunroof. Gets about 1/2 way back then reverses itself and closes. Will take to the dealer sometime since don't exactly need the sunroof now.
I noticed earlier today that my driver's side window was dropping much more than usual on unlocking but it seemed to roll up into the gasket and didn't think much of it.
Except when I drove it a short while ago and the auto-up after closing the door didn't actually close the gap the whole way! How annoying!
I got in, raised it via the switch and then opened the door, only to have it drop again.
Repeated the cycle and managed to get it closed enough to pass the night.
I'm hoping that the reinitialization as described by DragonWagon will help the problem and my clubbie won't need to spend any time at service.
Who knows!

In case anyone has other advice, the reinitialization steps did not work. :(
When I attempted it, the window motor made a clicking sound as it attempted (i'm guessing) to keep pushing the window into the gasket.
Total bummer. I haven't heard about this symptom anywhere else yet.
I'm trying to get into service this weekend to try to get this nipped before the snow gets serious.

My dealer called me yesterday and said that MINI has ordered them to put in a new window motor. It was supposed to arrive today- lets hope this works!!!
Update: they've had my car 8 days now. I guess the new motor took longer than expected to get in but it has now been installed. I've asked them to keep the car for the rest of the weekend and park it outside since its supposed to be bitterly cold these next two days. They are going to continue testing the window when cold since that is when all these problems started. I know I'm not the only one with this problem but its too much of a coincidence that it started malfunctioning as soon as the temps dropped super low.
