Squeaking in overhead?

So, I had my top up today with the windows rolled up (hey, it was raining... don't give me a wedgie), and I noticed a weird noise- a rattle/squeak from the top area someplace. Has anyone else had noise issues from there? I honestly can't tell if it's coming from the roof or the console and does not go away no matter how I press or push on the top area (near the roof controls it sounds like).

Before I had my roof replaced, I had a squeaking/rattling noise on the driver's side just about my head. I eventually stuffed a cheap little glove in the area & it went away. But it totally went away with the roof replacement. Must have been a minor adjustment in that particular part of the roof.

My '06 just started to squeak/rattle in the same spot. It's not loud and not always there, mainly in the morning when its cool. I sometimes get a slight rattle in the center dash. Pressing in on the panel makes it go away. So does turning up the radio or just keeping the top down. I'll live with it until I go in for the first service.

I complained about the same rattle during last service at the dealership. They found a broken clip that holds the cable in place that runs across the side rail next to the driver's head to the header.

They replaced the clip - rattle fixed.

Cool... glad to know that other people have heard it but that it was fixable. I can live with it until I get my first service.

One other question... When raising/lowering the roof, does yours squeak (like the brackets need lubrication) or is it quiet? Mine has squealed since day one and I wonder if that's normal.

Thanks!

My roof sounds like a pig squealing It's been greased but it didn't seem to help. I've learned to live with it. And it doesn't seem to cause any harm

Same rattle, right above my head. I'll bring it in when I go for my first servicing.

Yep, squealing like a pig is a good description... Glad to hear that it seems to have no ill effects.

Here... Piggy Piggy

I'm wondering if it's self lubricating. As long as I move the top once during the day, it doesn't squeal. But if I don't touch it for more than one day, the squealing pig comes out. Nice and embarrassing when I'm arriving at the gym with everyone else. An orange MINI gets enough attention without adding a squealing pig to it.

I had a rattle that I could not place - it seemed to be coming from the door area, yet when I took it into the dealership, they took the door apart and found nothing loose. I would notice it even when I went over a small blip in the road, and it bugged the heck out of me.
FINALLY - the dealership found that I had a broken sunroof cassette piece. the sunroof worked fine, but when the tech opened it, and looked in backwards, there was a loose piece and that was the source of the rattle!
The roof was replaced in its entirety due to the TSB about the wear issue, and of course a new sunroof cassette was installed in that.
No rattles since!!
