New owner of an '07 Cooper S 6 spd. with 36K. Mechanic at a private and respected Mini repair facility spotted a thin oil film on most of the valve cover. He said it now needs (or soon will) a new valve cover and that this is not an uncommon repair on these engines. I assumed it would simply require a new gasket but he is saying it need a whole new cover.
Has anyone experienced this problem and if so what was the fix you did?
New Mini owner myself, but old time car guy. The cover would need to be replaced if it has been damaged, cracked or somehow warped. Otherwise a gasket ought to do the trick. Has the mechanic shown you why the cover needs replacing?
Helo, you are in the R52 Gen1 MINI section. You need the R56+ section if if you are talking about the valve cover , it comes with a new gasket : 11127646555
Actually it is quite common to replace the cover when it is leaking. Not sure what all fails, but you can buy the gasket alone, or the cover and a gasket.
I had my gasket replaced and it still leaked. Had the cover replaced to fix it.
Many gen2 cars have the PCV valve molded into the valve cover....
So if you take it off, you generally replace it....the pcv can get sticky, and cause oil leaks.
