Is it normal? There are no leaks around, no abnormal oil consumption, no stains on garage floor, but it kinda bothers me as imho engine should be dry and clean unless there are leaks, i.e. repairs are needed.

Is it possible to open the top portion of the valve cover to see what's going on there?

 

I have the exact same thing just happen to me. I would like to know what is causing this.
I checked my oil level and it is normal.
I will clean this up today and try to see where the leak is coming from.

 

It's either a bad valve cover gasket, or there's a crack in the cover or PCV system itself.
Clean the area, and see where the seepage occurs afterwards.

It's looking like a broken PCV valve that is built into the valve cover. you will have to replace it. Not too hard of a job really, that almost anyone could do. This is starting to be a problem on more gen 2 cars.

I have the same problem with my 08 "S". Do you need to replace the gasket when you replace the cover? Where is the best place to get the cover and basket?
The dealer pricing is outrageous... Please advise.

As a rule of thumb, it's always highly recommended you replace any gasket you open up.

Well, got cover gaskets replaced, we'll see if it was just them.

 

I've had good luck and good prices with parts.com on BMW and MINI OEM parts.

 

How are things with your valve cover since you had your gaskets replaced? Any noticeable difference? Do you think that fixed the problem? I have the same symptom on my Cooper S and was just curious.

 

Hi I am having the same issue on my 2008 mcs with 53000 mils. Can you please let me know if changing the gasket was enough or if you had to change the cover as well.

If the valve cover is leaking all the way around its most likely the cover itself.

Hey ECS, is this valve cover redesigned or is it exactly the same as the original on my 2008 MCSm.

I'm hoping that Mini redesigned it so for my $250 bucks it traps more oil so less going through the PCV to stick to my valves!

 

gregsmini - What I know is the part has a just received a newer MINI part number from the older MINI part number 11127585907 . The outside looks the same.

I cant find it now but there was one thread that said Bentley suggests to use a RTV sealant. I don't have a Bentley manual so may I ask If any one used a sealant and at what places on the gasket.

I have a 2007 MCS with a suspected bad cylinder head / valve cover.

When I do an online parts lookup at MINI of South Atlanta the results show the old part number 11127585907.

Does the new design part 11127646555 fit all years of the N14 engines?

Edit: I did a search at another online parts source and the cross reference returned part 11127646555 - but any confirmation is welcome before I shell out ~$300.

Cover 11127646555 comes with a red ring on the rear port and an excess pressure relief valve packed in a separate ziploc bag. I assume the ring gets pulled out and the check valve put in its place, correct?

 

Yes,

In the zip lock bag come the little seal / adapter you see in the pictures and the pictures have been updated.

In the bag is a little paper with instructions for the seal adapter.
