R52 2005 MCS Convertible Mods!
2005 MCS Convertible Mods!
As I eagerly await the arrival of my 2005 MCS Convertible (Due in Oxnard 9-2-04)...
Would the current MCS aftermarket exhausts, intakes, and sway bars would bolt on?
Thank you,
Russell

2005 MCS cabrio mods....
Thank you for your reply.
So I am safe to go ahead and order my bolt on products for the 2005 MCS cabrio?
Will the added weight affect sway bars, springs, or tire choices?
I do have reservations about the ecu reprogram considering the factory boost in horsepower and new ceramic covered supercharger, your thoughts?
Russell

I thought I heard that extra chassis reinforcements were included on the convertible to help account for the loss in rigidily by losing the hard top. Is that true? If not, I'd look into mods to help there...
Otherwise, you should be open to the full gamut of mods! Oh, take your Whalen **** with you
. You will still have a couple of months of very nice weather... Enjoy!

Would you happen to know where one can see a photo of these additions? Heck, that could be a worthwhile mod for those of us without a cabrio
I know the engine mounts changed in '04, and according to Randy that part can be retro-fitted into earlier MINIs...

Cool that you're getting the vert...
What about that big X like support underneath it? If you're thinking of an aftermarket catback exhaust you should make certain there's the neccessary room.
Were I in your shoes I'd be going for a pulley, lighter wheels/non-runflat rubber, rear sway bar, free flowing catback and cold air intake. Denso plugs and a nice set of wires couldn't hurt either. With all that extra weight the convertable has you're going to want to lighten up and mod it up to make the car feel fast. Everyone that's done the above mods with the hard top MCS swears that Its the way the car should have felt from the factory.
I also hope there's some warm weather left in your neck of the woods when your MINI finally arrives.

Thanks MINIMC,
We are in San Diego / Encinitas area, lots of sun in September. Our summer starts then when all of the tourists go home......
I am concerned about your mentioned "X" brace underneath that may comprimise the aftermarket exhaust.
Does anyone have a pix of that?
Thank you,
RR
