Rear Parcel Shelf cords?

I bought a used 2005 convertible. The rear parcel shelf has 2 cords with ***** on them. These just dangle or hang there. Does the upper loop hook somewhere? What are they for?
thanks

They should be hooked to the top somewhere. (I'll see if I can get a picture) They raise the shelf out of the way when you open the reverse hinge of the top.

I'm heading on lunch in an hour, I'll check mine & get back to ya an hour after that...unless someone else chimes in before then.

Here ya go...

Pull the handles on both sides of the boot out & up...

Lift the back of the top up & you can see where they should be attached.

I hope that helps.

Congrats on the Cabrio & Happy Motoring!

Remove clip ends

Thanks for the info and photos. This wasn't in the manual.
BTW, the ends of the posts have clips which must be removed first before hooking the cord unto it.

I scratched my head for a couple of months 'till I figured that out too. One thing that may, I hope it doesn't, come to your attention sooner or later is the boot door adjar warning even tho you know you closed it. Mine is a little schizophrenic especially after stuff has been removed from the boot. I found that by locking the car with the fob then unlocking the boot, open the boot all the way then close it firmly, the problem goes away untill next time. There are two switches which may or may not be communicating, one under the tray and one for the boot hatch, both on the left side.

That started happening to mine (early 2006 build). MINI later fixed it by updating the tailgate switch with a longer plunger. Mine was already out of warranty but the part is only about $15.

I believe it is part # 61319119052, item 9 here:

Good catch. I'm putting that on file for future reference and problem resolution. Thanks.
