Trim replacement

My daughter's 05 justa cabrio's trim is starting to deteriorate. I am speaking of the trim that is between the body and the canvas top. it is the rubber piece that is covered by the chrome trim. It is cracking in a number of spots all around the top.
Have any of you tackled replacing the rubber trim? I am very handy and generally do most of the work on my out of warrenty MINIs. Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hey there.. Mine is the same way and I have seen most 05/06 having the same problem. I asked Ed at Mini World [To see if he had some good used ones..], He mentioned that to replace it will have to be the new one.. Have not call the dealer to find the part yet..

Same issue with mine, only my trim is more or less deteriorated and gone. Looks like a fairly simple fix per the attached link.

Does anyone know if this trim has a functional purpose or is it mainly cosmetic? I have other wants i.e. new wheels, new head unit, speakers...and can live with the trim if its not causing a problem. Any one know?

I noticed the same problem on my 2008. The rear piece had bad rubber (cracking and broken). I took it to the dealer and had it replaced for free since I am still in warranty.

Thanks for the link PC CooperS. We have two Cabrios and a coupe and I now feel I can replace my daughter's and my wife's when it finally goes. The rest of the top on both is in very good shape. I am a firm believer in 303 fabric protector. Both tops bead the water very nicely. Last application was 6 months ago and still going strong.
When I fix my daughter's in a couple of weeks, I will post picks and the diy instructions. Thanks to all for your replies.
Jon

eatsubs - I look forward to the pic's, and hope it goes well.

Likewise, I use 303 and enjoy the beads. Still curious how much funtion this part plays vs. cosmetics. If its truly functional and needed, I'll need to move it up on my list of wants!

I think this is what you are looking for. Check this thread... https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...-the-cost.html

I ordered replacement trim pieces from Classic on Saturday. Good people.
